TemplateViewer (tv)

A World of Warcraft addon for previewing Blizzard's XML frame templates — like TextureAtlasViewer, but for templates.

Pick a template from the list and tv builds a live instance of it with the client you are running, so you see exactly how that template renders there: art, fonts, and any atlas remaps that client applies. Underneath the preview, tv shows what the client reports about the template — its widget type, addon, what it inherits, its KeyValues, and the file that defines it — plus the size the instance rendered at.

Every template is listed: the ~3,600 that Blizzard's UI defines (including those of addons that load on demand) plus any other addon's templates the client knows about. Curated templates come first. Many templates render nothing useful until they are given text, a title or data, so a curated entry carries a small setup that does what Blizzard's own UI would do, and renders as soon as you select it. Everything else renders raw, without setup, when you ask for it.

Usage

• /tv or /templateviewer toggles the window; /tv <text> opens it with the search filled in. Search matches template names, then categories and addon names, then descriptions.
• Curated templates have gold names. For any other template, Render builds it raw; tick Auto-render to render every template as you select it. Building a template runs its scripts and the instance stays until you reload, which is why it isn't automatic.
• Templates from addons that load on demand are dimmed until their addon is loaded; Load <addon> loads it.
• Scroll on the preview to zoom, drag to pan; Reset View fits the template back into view, Background cycles the backdrop colour.
• Click the template name field to select it for copying.
• /tv audit compares the client's C_XMLUtil.GetTemplates() with tv's catalog and saves the report to the TemplateViewerAudit SavedVariable (written on /reload or logout).
• The window won't open in combat and closes when combat starts, because some templates are protected.
