What's new

Sleek Unit Frames - v0.22.56-beta15

Introducing portrait-free compact unit frames, together with several layout and visual refinements.

New: No Portrait / Compact Mode

  • Added a new No portrait (compact) option under Portrait Content.
  • Completely restructures the unit frame when portraits are disabled instead of simply hiding the portrait and leaving an empty gap.
  • Player, Target, Pet, Focus, Party and related mini-frames now collapse into a compact Name + Health + Power layout.
  • Portrait settings remain stored when switching to compact mode, allowing users to return to their previous avatar configuration at any time.

Compact Frame Layout

  • Health and Power bars now extend fully edge-to-edge across the compact frame.
  • Removed unnecessary left, right and bottom padding around the Health and Power bars.
  • Added dedicated full-width rounded masks for Tight, Medium and Soft corner styles.
  • Compact Party Target frames use the same portrait-free visual language for consistency.
  • Frame width settings now represent the actual visible width of the compact unit frame.

Compact Level Display

  • Moved the level display into the left side of the Name bar.
  • Removed the portrait-style level badge background and border in compact mode.
  • Level is now displayed as clean text only.
  • Existing level difficulty coloring remains intact.
  • Names automatically reserve space for the level text to prevent overlap.

Compact Indicators & Status Elements

  • Repositioned portrait-dependent indicators into more logical locations when no portrait is shown.
  • Role indicators are positioned alongside the Health bar.
  • PvP indicators are repositioned alongside the Power bar.
  • Combat indicators are positioned separately from PvP indicators to keep their meaning clear.
  • Leader crown, raid target marker, Ready Check and Questie objective indicators now use compact-specific placement.
  • Pet combat feedback is repositioned over the Pet Health bar.
  • Range awareness continues to work without relying on portrait opacity.

Resting Visuals

  • Added a new compact-frame resting glow.
  • The entire compact frame receives a subtle animated warm-gold halo while resting.
  • The existing animated Zzz resting effect remains supported.
  • Portrait-based resting effects automatically return when switching back to a portrait mode.

Portrait-Specific Visuals

  • Portrait-only decorations are automatically hidden while using compact mode.
  • This includes portrait rings, portrait glow effects, portrait sparks, Player corner ornaments and Target classification dragons.
  • These settings are not deleted or changed and return automatically when portraits are enabled again.

Fixes & Polish

  • Fixed the compact Power bar extending slightly outside the surrounding frame.
  • Improved bottom-edge alignment and clipping for compact Health and Power bars.
  • Improved compact level text positioning and sizing.
  • Adjusted the normal portrait Player level text by 1 pixel for better horizontal centering inside its badge.
  • The Player level alignment adjustment only affects the normal portrait Player frame and does not alter Target, Party or compact layouts.

Compatibility & Maintenance

  • Existing portrait configurations remain fully compatible with the new compact mode.
  • Switching between Unit Avatar, Animated 3D Avatar, Class Icon and No Portrait remains non-destructive.
  • Existing profiles and the Author's Favorite preset remain compatible.
  • Continued internal safeguards against WoW Lua's 200-local-variable limit.

Thanks to the CurseForge community for the suggestion to support portrait-free frames. What started as “can we hide the portrait?” ended up becoming a complete compact unit-frame style of its own.
