Description

RareNet: rare scanner and alerts for WoW Forever

The rare hunting addon built for WoW Forever. A rare scanner, tracker and alert in one: live rare sightings shared between players on every layer, Forever's new rares and their new drops, respawn timers and a full rare database.

RareNet's rare database: Foreman Rigger and his Forever drop, Foreman's Helm

Forever rare spawns and loot from ForeverChanges, used with their permission.

Made for Forever, not ported from Classic

Forever added dozens of rares that never existed in Classic and gave old ones brand new loot. Classic rare addons don't know any of it. RareNet does:

  • 28 rares that are new in Forever, with their spawn points, from Elwynn and Durotar to Zephras Isle and the Ruins of Lordaeron, plus the new Forever spawn points of classic rares like Foreman Rigger and Taskmaster Whipfang.
  • Forever's new drops: 33 more with their drop rates, such as the Zephras Isle gear, Ukta's Conduit, Bristlebark Bow and Helm Splitter, plus Foreman's Helm, Whipfang's Skinsearer, Dro'zem's Tunic, Haunting Blade, the Alliance Outrunners' weapons, the Blessing of Kalimdor set from the Barrens rares, Heartrazor's Wyvern Heart Band, and more.
  • Tameable Forever rares marked for hunters: Fernfeather, Mystmane, Coldrasp, Nightscreech, Ghostfang, Matriarch Bristlefur and Shal'ma.
  • 21 undiscovered rares that exist in Forever but nobody has located yet. Be the first to find one: RareNet shows a "First discovery!" alert and puts it on every player's map.
  • Real drop rates, learned by the community. When a RareNet player loots a rare, its drops are shared with everyone. The rare database shows how often each item really dropped in Forever, and each new version ships what players found.

Never miss a rare again

On a layered megaserver, the rare you are hunting might be up right now, just not on your layer. RareNet tells you which layer it is on, how long ago it was seen, and whether someone already killed it. Everyone who runs the addon becomes a scout for everyone else.

  • Knows your layer. It reads the creatures around you and shows which layer you are on.
  • Shares every rare, live. When any RareNet player spots a rare, everyone gets it within seconds: name, zone, coordinates, alive or dead, and layer. Green means your layer, orange another one.
  • Alerts you can't miss. The rare's name in big letters at the top of the screen, RareNet's sonar ping (or a sound of your choice) and a waypoint so the arrow takes you there.
  • Favorites. Star the rares you are hunting: alert only for them if you like, and hear when a favorite's respawn window opens on your layer.
  • Catches you up. Logged in late? Another player sends you what you missed.
  • Respawn timers. When a rare dies, RareNet remembers it for that layer and tells you when it should be back ("back in 4h-7h", then "may be back now"), with Forever's respawn times first.
  • Checks itself. Sightings expire on their own, and a report only counts as confirmed when two players saw it with their own eyes. Fake reports get refuted by players who walk past the spot.
  • Works with your layer addon. Right click a rare on another layer and RareNet hands it to Layer-Swap or Forever Layer Hop, which take you there. RareNet itself never changes your layer.
  • Works with TomTom. Every RareNet waypoint uses TomTom's arrow when you have it.

Rare database and map

  • Every rare in one window (/rarenet db): turning 3D model, level, spawn points, live status and drops: what RareNet players have seen, the known Forever drops, and the classic table for reference. Shift-click an item to link it, ctrl-click to try it on.
  • Search and filters. Search by rare, zone or item ("helm" finds who drops one), pick a zone by continent, and filter to tameable rares, rares new in Forever, rares with Forever loot, rares seen right now or rares near your level.
  • A clean map. One clear pin per rare; hover it to light up all of its spawn points and see its 3D model and best drops. Click it to keep its spawn points shown, right click for a waypoint, shift-click for the full details.
  • Minimap icons. Known spawns nearby and live sightings on your minimap; far away live rares sit on its edge, pointing the way. Set how see-through the icons are, on the map and on the minimap.
  • How to fight it. Each rare's tab tells you what it does: Forever tips first (where to find it, solo or group, respawn), then the spells it casts with the game's own descriptions, when it flees, calls for help or enrages, and its respawn time.
  • Hunter friendly. Filter the list and the map to tameable rares only, and see what pet each one makes: its family, attack speed and the abilities it teaches when tamed.

How to use it

Install it and play. Click the spyglass on the minimap for the live rare list, right click it for the rare database, settings and more.

RareNet sees rares and your layer through enemy nameplates. It asks once whether to turn them on (press V in game to toggle them yourself). Without them it still works, but only with what you target or mouse over.

Commands

  • /rarenet: show or hide the live rare list
  • /rarenet db: rare database with loot
  • /rarenet config: settings
  • /rarenet all, /rarenet tame, /rarenet zone: what the list shows
  • /rarenet alerts: alerts on or off
  • /rarenet test: show a test alert
  • /rarenet ignore Name: ignore reports from a player
  • /rarenet peers: who is running RareNet right now, and who is in the channel but quiet
  • /rarenet members: everyone in the RareNet channel, click a name to whisper
  • /rarenet ping: test the connection to other players
  • /rarenet diag: diagnostics

In the list and on the map

Mark Meaning
Green layer the rare is on your layer
Orange layer another layer on your continent
? reported by one player, not confirmed yet
?? someone stood there and did not see it
~ from before you logged out, waiting to be checked
White pin rare spawn (hover to see all its spawn points)
Gold pin tameable rare
Blue pin rare new in Forever
Purple pin rare discovered by RareNet players
Radar waves rare up right now: green on your layer, orange on another layer, white while your own layer is not known yet

Fair play

  • RareNet only shares what players see. It never moves your character and never targets anything. Changing layers is up to you.
  • It talks to other players through normal addon messages on a hidden chat channel, the same way many group and guild addons do. If that channel is not available it falls back to your guild.
  • Players whose reports keep being refuted are muted for a while. Honest players are never punished for a rare that died or wandered off.
  • Nothing is sent from dungeons, raids or battlegrounds.

Beta

The more players run it, the more rares and drops everyone sees. Reports of anything odd are very welcome, /rarenet diag output helps a lot.
