Flight Doom

Play a retro first-person shooter while your gryphon flies you across Azeroth, with Deadmines murlocs and Defias, Freedoom maps, and progress saved between flights.

Flight Doom

Flight paths are long. Now you can spend them shooting murlocs.

Flight Doom opens a small retro first-person shooter when you take a flight, pauses it when you land, and picks up right where you left off on your next flight. It runs entirely inside the game as a normal addon.

What's in it

  • 12 levels. Three built around WoW dungeons (The Deadmines, Ragefire Chasm and The Stockade), then the nine maps of the Freedoom episode, secret exit included.
  • The real Deadmines look. Walls and floors use the dungeon's own textures, straight from your game client, with teal mine light, lanterns, ore carts and the gunpowder keg that blows the gate to Ironclad Cove: light it, run, boom.
  • Deadmines monsters. Murlocs that stab you up close and throw their spear from range, and Defias thugs and pirates with cutlasses. They use their real in-game voices, played straight from your WoW client.
  • The classic stuff. 8 weapons, keycard doors, lifts, switches, secrets, an automap and end-of-level stats.
  • Talent trees. Every level you finish earns a talent point (two if you didn't die). Spend them in Warrior, Hunter and Mage trees: Charge and Whirlwind, traps and Aimed Shot, Blink, Frost Nova and Pyroblast. Free respecs, saved per character.
  • Saves between flights. Your level, position, health, weapons, ammo and kills are stored per character. Land, log out, come back tomorrow and you continue from the same spot.
  • Never takes your keys. It opens paused on a flight, so nothing happens until you click the view. Esc or Enter give the keyboard back to WoW instantly, and entering combat or landing does the same.

Notes

  • Picture: it draws with the game's own UI textures, so it looks chunkier than the original games. The detail adjusts itself to keep your game smooth.
  • Sound: it plays the Freedoom sounds and the WoW creature voices. If your client can't play one of them, it falls back quietly and tells you once.
  • Saving: progress is written to disk when you log out or /reload, like any addon.
  • Not a bot: it never moves your character, casts or touches anything outside its own window.

Credits

  • Maps, textures, sprites and sounds from Freedoom (BSD license, included in the addon).
  • Murloc and Defias sprites are original pixel art made for this addon.
  • WoW creature voices are played from your own game client; no Blizzard files are included.
