What's new

Proto Core 1.1.0

Highlights

  • Its own download: Proto LFG + Chat, ServiceShop, Proto Tools and Proto Threat need it; the CurseForge app installs it for you (open the app and click Update)
  • Switch Proto addons on and off: Settings > Proto Core
  • Your settings are kept in Proto Core: they survive updates and reinstalls (on by default)
  • Threat sharing: your threat goes to your group's Proto Threat meters (on by default, not in boss fights)
  • Boss fights: chat lines and messages wait until the fight ends, then go (on by default)
  • One minimap button for every Proto addon: right-click opens Settings

1.1.0 (2026-10-05)

  • /who asked too soon: the chat line just says when it's asked again ("asking again in 1s.").
  • Its own download: Proto LFG + Chat, ServiceShop, Proto Tools and Proto Threat need it, and the CurseForge app installs it with them.
  • Settings kept in Proto Core: every Proto addon's settings are now saved in Proto Core's files too, so they survive an addon being reinstalled, renamed or moved to its own download. Nothing to do: they come across by themselves.
  • Boss fights: a chat line waiting for the fight to end now waits for the whole fight, however long (before, a fight over a minute lost it).
  • Proto Link: the channel-limit message says 20 channels (Forever's limit, not 10), and Proto Core's settings tab shows it instead of "Connecting...".
  • Notification sounds play on the Master channel, so they're heard with game sound effects turned down.
  • Tidy (no change you'd see): the Proto addons now reach each other only through Proto Core, never by each other's names, so one can be updated, switched off or missing without the others breaking. Proto Core also keeps one list of who you whispered or invited (and when), which Proto LFG + Chat's Group Finder, quick recruit and pop-ups read, and the chat filter's "hide this line" is a Core step like the rest.
  • Tidy (no change you'd see): one copy each of the pop-up cast button (Proto Core's and Proto LFG + Chat's pop-ups), the settings switch, saved settings with defaults, the safe game-call helpers and the group-fighting check, where each addon had its own. Proto Core [Shared Libraries] is now version 3: Proto LFG + Chat, Proto Tools and Proto Threat need it (update Proto Core with them).
  • "New version is out" for every Proto addon: Proto Core, Proto Tools and Proto Threat now get the notice too (it only covered ServiceShop and Proto LFG + Chat). Older versions still read their two. The dev ping lists Proto Threat as well.
  • Proto Core no longer lists the Proto addons by name: each addon's .toc says its short name, its CurseForge name, its order and whether it can be switched off, and the Core's lists (switches, pings, version notices) come from that.
  • Boss fights: while the game locks chat (a dungeon or raid boss), every chat line and Proto Link message of ours now waits until the fight ends: whispers and channels too, not only party / raid / say. The game refuses or blocks all of them then (tested 5 Oct 2026), so before this they were lost (and could show the game's "blocked" error). The threat share and taunt notices are dropped instead, never sent late.
  • Threat share: in a group fight, your threat on your target goes to your group's Proto users (hidden, through Proto Link, party or raid), so Proto Threat meters show it where the game hides it from them. Proto Core is enough to send it. Your taunts (Taunt, Mocking Blow, Challenging Shout, Growl, Challenging Roar) and threat drops (Feign Death, Vanish, Feint, Cower, Ice Block, Divine Shield, Divine Protection, Fade, Invulnerability) go at once, high priority, and a resisted one is said too (checked from your threat just after: the combat log is closed to addons). Settings > Proto Core > Share my threat with my group (on).
  • Switch Proto addons on and off on the Proto Core settings tab (now the first tab): Proto LFG + Chat, Proto Threat, Proto ServiceShop and Proto Tools each have a tick. Off, the addon stays ticked in the game's AddOns list but loads nothing after a /reload (a Reload now button is there). For all your characters, or tick "Just this character". Proto Link's status just says Connected.
  • Proto Link is part of Proto Core now, so every Proto addon has it: Proto Tools or ServiceShop on their own still join its hidden channel, find other Proto users, say which version they run and get the "new version is out" notice. Its switch, its status (connected, or why not) and the new version notice are on a new Proto Core settings page (a tab in ServiceShop's and Proto LFG + Chat's Settings, and Esc > Options > AddOns > Proto Core), with Show minimap button.
  • Fixed: turning off the new version notice didn't stick, and a pop-up asked to be silent (or with its level's sound off) still played its sound.
  • Minimap button (and the game's addon menu): right-click always opens Settings, whichever Proto addons you run. Left-click is unchanged.
  • Proto Link answers a ping: a single hidden whisper asking which Proto addons and versions you run gets one answer (at most every 5 seconds per player). Nothing is sent unless someone asks; there is no heartbeat.
  • Notifications: how a pop-up or chat line looks and behaves (colours, time, sound, held or hidden in a fight, which buttons it has) is set in one place, the Core's notification styles; the addons only say what it says and what a click does. New: a style can hide its pop-ups during a fight and bring them back after (buff reminders use it), and the colours inside messages (green "on", red "off", grey notes) come from the style too.
  • Threat and damage readers for any Proto addon (Proto Threat first): ProtoCore.Threat (your group on a mob's threat list, who it attacks) and ProtoCore.Meter (the game's own damage meter: damage, healing, interrupts... and a report to chat after the fight). Both work when the game hides the numbers: shown, never compared.
