Description

MidnightNameplates

Modern, powerful and highly customizable nameplates for World of Warcraft: Midnight.

MidnightNameplates is an original nameplate addon built from the ground up as part of the Midnight addon series. It is designed to provide the depth expected from a full-featured nameplate addon while keeping configuration clean, performance-conscious, and visually consistent.

Whether you want simple and minimal plates or detailed combat information for Delves, Mythic+, raids, open-world content and PvP, MidnightNameplates gives you control over how different units are presented.

✦ Full Nameplate Support

MidnightNameplates supports separate presentation and behavior for:

  • Enemy NPCs
  • Enemy players
  • Friendly players
  • Friendly pets and minions
  • Enemy pets and minions
  • Guardians
  • Totems
  • Normal, elite and other classifications

Pet/minion plates depend on the nameplate sources World of Warcraft exposes to addons. When Blizzard requires its Nameplates → Minions option to expose those units, MidnightNameplates styles the resulting plates rather than continuously overriding Blizzard's setting.

✦ Health Bars

Build nameplates that fit your UI rather than adapting your UI around the addon.

Customize:

  • Health-bar width and height
  • Scale
  • Alpha
  • Health colors
  • Textures
  • Borders and presentation
  • Unit-type-specific appearance
  • Normal and Thin summon styles

Supported SharedMedia resources can also be used for a more consistent appearance across your UI.

✦ Names & Typography

Control how unit names are displayed independently from the health bar.

Options include:

  • Font
  • Font size
  • Name color
  • Placement
  • Unit-type-specific presentation
  • SharedMedia fonts where supported

✦ Target, Focus & Mouseover

Important units should be immediately recognizable.

MidnightNameplates includes dedicated emphasis for:

  • Current target
  • Focus
  • Mouseover
  • Non-target units
  • Target markers and visual emphasis

These systems can make the important plate stand out without making every plate unnecessarily large.

✦ Advanced Cast Bars

Enemy casts are integrated directly into the MidnightNameplates presentation.

Cast information includes:

  • Spell name
  • Spell icon
  • Cast timer
  • Interruptible state
  • Non-interruptible state
  • Channels
  • Custom presentation and positioning

The cast system has also been hardened for the protected and secret-value restrictions introduced in modern WoW.

✦ Aura Tracking

Display useful combat information directly around the nameplate.

Aura support includes:

  • Buffs
  • Debuffs
  • Durations
  • Stack counts
  • Multiple aura presentation
  • Configurable display behavior

✦ Threat & Combat Awareness

MidnightNameplates can visually communicate combat state instead of requiring you to read every plate.

Features include:

  • Threat presentation
  • Combat-aware plate behavior
  • Classification indicators
  • Priority indicators
  • Execute presentation
  • Unit-specific emphasis

This makes the addon especially useful in environments with many enemies, such as Mythic+ and large pulls.

✦ PvE Intelligence & Rules

MidnightNameplates goes beyond basic health bars with configurable rules and PvE-oriented presentation.

The system can help distinguish important units and combat situations while still allowing you to decide how much information should be shown.

The goal is not to force one predefined setup, but to provide the tools for anything from a minimal everyday profile to a more information-heavy dungeon or raid setup.

✦ Pets, Minions, Guardians & Totems

Summoned units have their own dedicated configuration instead of simply inheriting every normal NPC setting.

Configure friendly and enemy summons separately, including:

  • Enable/disable presentation
  • Health
  • Names
  • Cast bars where applicable
  • Auras where applicable
  • Scale
  • Alpha
  • Health-bar dimensions
  • Normal / Thin plate styles
  • Guardians
  • Totems

MidnightNameplates intentionally avoids constantly fighting Blizzard's own nameplate-source settings.

✦ Profiles

A complete profile system is included.

You can:

  • Create profiles
  • Copy profiles
  • Rename profiles
  • Delete profiles
  • Protect the default profile
  • Assign profiles per character
  • Use context-based profiles
  • Import configurations
  • Export configurations

Imports include preview, validation and confirmation to reduce the chance of accidentally replacing a working setup.

✦ Live Preview

You shouldn't need to find a specific enemy every time you change a setting.

The configuration window contains a live preview capable of representing different nameplate families and states while you customize the addon.

This makes it much easier to tune appearance before returning to combat.

✦ Modern Configuration Interface

MidnightNameplates uses the visual language of the Midnight addon series rather than relying on a huge collection of standard Blizzard option controls.

Configuration is organized into dedicated sections for:

General • Health • Name • Target • Indicators • Cast Bar • Auras • Threat • Unit Types • Summons • Classifications • Rules • Intelligence • Profiles

The configuration pages use content-aware scrolling so shorter pages stop where their settings actually end.

MidnightNameplates is also registered under:

Esc → Options → AddOns → MidnightNameplates

✦ Performance Conscious

Nameplates can become expensive very quickly when dozens of units are visible.

A significant part of MidnightNameplates development has therefore focused on:

  • Reducing unnecessary repeated updates
  • Avoiding aggressive polling
  • Coalescing repeated work
  • Dense-nameplate performance
  • Blizzard/Midnight visual coexistence
  • Preventing duplicate plate presentation
  • WoW 12.1 protected-action safety
  • WoW 12.1 secret-value compatibility

Advanced diagnostics are available when troubleshooting is required, but they are read-only and on-demand rather than continuously running in the background.

✦ Commands

/mnp — Open MidnightNameplates configuration
/midnightnameplates — Open MidnightNameplates configuration
/mnpsummoncheck — Validate summon configuration
/mnpsummon — Run detailed summon/nameplate diagnostics

✦ Built for WoW: Midnight

Current release: 12.0.0
Interface: 120100
World of Warcraft: Midnight / WoW 12.1

The first stable release went through dedicated compatibility, performance, Blizzard-coexistence, summon-source and real-gameplay validation phases before reaching the 12.0 release baseline.

✦ Part of the Midnight Series

MidnightNameplates is designed to visually fit alongside the other Midnight addons while remaining fully usable on its own.
