MidnightMap started as a simple project to clean up the default World of Warcraft minimap.

V2 has grown into something much more.

Underneath the interface is a modular runtime with dedicated systems for appearance, themes, movement, visibility, minimap elements, zoom, calendar integration and addon-button management.

The result is a minimap that remains lightweight while offering considerably deeper customization.

🎨 Complete Appearance Control

Build a minimap that actually matches your UI.

Circle or Square

Switch instantly between:

• Classic Circle
• Pixel-clean Square

Both shapes use the same V2 Appearance Engine, so your colors, borders, opacity and themes remain consistent when switching between them.

Custom Borders

Control:

• Border thickness
• Border opacity
• Custom border color
• Class-colored borders
• Theme-controlled borders

Changes are applied live without requiring /reload.

Background Customization

Fine-tune the minimap background with:

• Custom RGB colors
• Transparency
• Theme integration

🌙 Midnight Theme Engine

MidnightMap includes its own theme system designed to integrate with the wider Midnight addon family.

Built-in themes include:

• Midnight Razor
• Midnight Dark
• Midnight Classic

You can let MidnightMap use its own local theme or follow the active MidnightShared global theme for a consistent appearance across supported Midnight addons.

Theme Studio

The new Theme Studio provides:

• Visual theme presets
• Global or local theme control
• Live appearance updates
• Theme-aware configuration UI
• Live minimap preview
• Custom appearance overrides

Choose a preset and then customize it to make the minimap your own.

🎨 Midnight Color Editor

MidnightMap doesn't rely on Blizzard's standard color-picker interface.

V2 includes a custom Midnight-styled color editor with:

• RGB controls
• HEX color input
• Live color preview
• Border transparency
• Background transparency
• Live minimap updates
• Revert / Cancel controls
• Movable color-picker window
• Saved window positioning

Clean up the Blizzard minimap while keeping the functionality you need.

Control the visibility of:

• Blizzard minimap artwork
• Zone text
• Clock
• Tracking button
• Addon compartment

• Calendar indicator

The minimap itself can also be freely positioned and locked when you're finished.

🔍 Mousewheel Zoom

Use the mouse wheel directly over the minimap to zoom in and out.

Auto Zoom Reset

Optionally let MidnightMap automatically restore your normal zoom level after a configurable delay.

No more accidentally leaving the minimap zoomed all the way in.

📅 Smart Calendar

MidnightMap can keep the Calendar button hidden during normal gameplay while automatically making it available when you have a pending calendar invitation.

Clean when you don't need it.

Visible when you do.

📍 Movable Elements

Unlock supported minimap elements and position them independently.

Currently supported:

• Clock

Positions are saved automatically and restored when you log in.

🧩 Button Manager V2

MidnightMap includes a dedicated system for managing third-party addon minimap buttons.

The Button Manager can:

• Discover supported minimap buttons
• Collect them into a clean button bar
• Reposition the bar
• Change button size
• Lock the bar
• Auto-hide the bar
• Exclude selected buttons

The V2 compatibility layer also includes special handling for protected, forbidden and masked textures to improve compatibility with modern WoW addons.

MidnightMap V2 has been reorganized around a modular architecture rather than one large minimap script.

MidnightMap is being developed as part of the broader Midnight addon ecosystem, with a shared visual language and architecture across supported Midnight addons.

The long-term goal is simple:

One design language. One consistent experience. Multiple independent addons.

MidnightMap is a personal project I've wanted to create since I started playing World of Warcraft nearly 20 years ago.

What began as an idea for a cleaner minimap has gradually turned into one of my favorite projects to work on.

V2 represents the direction I always wanted for it: lightweight underneath, deeply customizable when you want it, and designed to feel like a natural part of World of Warcraft.
