Description
MarketLens is a modular World of Warcraft Auction House addon that puts useful market information directly into your item tooltips and adds practical tools for scanning prices, finding deals, tracking items, buying crafting materials, calculating crafting costs, selling auctions, reviewing sales and checking your inventory.
MarketLens is designed to make Auction House information useful without requiring complicated groups, operations or configuration.
You can use only the modules you need. The core addon provides tooltip market information, while the additional Auction House, crafting and inventory modules can be enabled or disabled individually.
Market information directly in your tooltips
Hover over an item and MarketLens can show its current Auction House information directly inside the normal World of Warcraft tooltip.
With data collected by the included in-game Scanner, MarketLens can display:
- Minimum Buyout
- Available Quantity
- Age of the latest market data
If you use the optional MarketLens Companion, additional information becomes available, including:
- Market Value
- 7-Day Average
- 30-Day Average
- Number of Auctions
- Automatically updated market data
MarketLens can also add your own trading information to item tooltips, including:
- Average purchase price
- Average sale price
- Owned quantity across your account
MarketLens Auction House Hub
MarketLens adds its own integrated Auction House area with quick access to several market tools without replacing Blizzard's normal Auction House interface.
The MarketLens hub contains:
- Scanner - update current market data
- Watchlist - monitor selected items and local price history
- Deals - find auctions listed below MarketLens market values
- Sales - review your recorded Auction House sales and revenue
MarketLens - Scanner
MarketLens - Scanner lets you update your market data directly from the in-game Auction House.
From the MarketLens Auction House interface, you can collect current Auction House prices with a single click.
The Scanner reads current Auction House information through World of Warcraft's addon APIs and stores a compact local snapshot containing the latest available market data.
The Scanner itself does not build a historical price database for the entire Auction House.
MarketLens - Deals
MarketLens - Deals helps identify auctions that are currently listed below known MarketLens market values.
Deals compares current Auction House listings against available MarketLens pricing data and highlights potentially interesting offers directly inside the MarketLens Auction House interface.
This gives you a quick way to spot unusually cheap listings without having to manually search through individual items.
MarketLens only provides the market comparison. Purchases are always made manually through Blizzard's normal Auction House interface.
MarketLens - Buyer
MarketLens - Buyer turns tracked profession recipes into a practical Auction House shopping assistant.
When you track recipes through the normal World of Warcraft profession interface, Buyer automatically collects the required purchasable reagents and displays them next to the Auction House buying interface.
Buyer can:
- Combine reagents from multiple tracked recipes
- Add together required quantities for matching reagents
- Keep different crafting qualities grouped as alternative choices
- Show how many items of each quality you already own
- Highlight reagent qualities for which you already have enough materials
- Open a reagent directly in the normal Auction House purchase window
- Automatically prefill the missing quantity for the selected reagent quality
If a recipe supports optional crafting reagents, Buyer can also display available options such as:
- Optional Embellishments
- Optional Secondary Stat Reagents
Buyer also includes persistent Shopping Lists for items you want to purchase independently of your currently tracked recipes.
You can create, rename and delete shopping lists, add items directly from the Auction House and reorder saved entries using drag and drop.
Items purchased through the Auction House can also contribute to MarketLens' account-wide purchase history and personal average purchase prices.
MarketLens - Crafting
MarketLens - Crafting adds market-based crafting information directly to the World of Warcraft profession interface.
It can calculate the estimated material cost of a recipe using current MarketLens prices and compare that cost with the expected value of the crafted result.
Crafting can display information such as:
- Estimated crafting cost
- Estimated profit or loss
- Market value of the crafted result
- Value of Concentration where applicable
- Learned output information for supported processing recipes
For reagents that are available directly from profession vendors, MarketLens can use included static NPC prices instead of relying on Auction House listings when the vendor is cheaper.
If no known NPC price is available, MarketLens automatically continues using the available Auction House market data.
MarketLens - Watchlist
MarketLens - Watchlist is designed for items you want to buy, but not necessarily at their current price.
You can add an item to your Watchlist directly from the Auction House and MarketLens will locally record its price whenever you manually update the Watchlist.
Each watched item can display:
- Current price
- Observed price level
- Lowest observed price
- Highest observed price
- Last update
- Crafting quality where applicable
A graphical price history lets you review the observed development over:
- 24 hours
- 7 days
- 30 days
- Your complete local history
You can also define a personal target price. The target is displayed directly in the graph, making it easy to see when an item approaches the price you are willing to pay.
When a target price is reached, the item is highlighted in the Watchlist and MarketLens posts a notification in the chat.
When you decide to buy, the Buy button takes you directly from the Watchlist to the selected item's Auction House purchase page.
Items from Buyer Shopping Lists can also appear inside the Watchlist interface, giving you market observations for materials you already plan to purchase.
Only explicitly watched items and relevant Shopping List items receive local Watchlist history. MarketLens does not continuously track the entire Auction House.
MarketLens - Seller
MarketLens - Seller adds a compact selling assistant next to the normal Blizzard Auction House selling interface.
It displays sellable items from your bags. Clicking an item prepares it in the Blizzard selling window and MarketLens evaluates the current market before suggesting a price.
Seller can help detect situations where a small number of unusually cheap auctions would otherwise cause you to significantly underprice your own item.
It can show:
- Recommended selling price
- Current cheapest offer
- MarketLens Market Value
- Auction House deposit
- Vendor value
MarketLens can warn you when:
- Your selected price is significantly below the current MarketLens Market Value
- Extremely cheap listings may be distorting the lowest available price
- The Auction House deposit creates additional selling risk
- Selling the item to a vendor may be economically safer or more profitable
MarketLens never posts an auction automatically. The final auction is always created manually through the normal World of Warcraft selling interface.
MarketLens - Auctions
MarketLens - Auctions extends Blizzard's normal Auctions view with additional information about your currently listed auctions.
It can compare your listings with the current market and provide useful information such as:
- Current best available price
- Your listed unit price
- Whether your auction has been undercut
The module keeps Blizzard's normal auction management workflow intact while making it easier to identify listings that may need your attention.
MarketLens - Sales
MarketLens - Sales records completed Auction House sales from Blizzard's Auction House.
The Sales view provides an account-wide local sales history with information such as:
- Sold item
- Quantity sold
- Unit price
- Revenue after Auction House fees
- Date of sale
MarketLens also summarizes your sales revenue for useful periods such as today, the last 7 days and the last 30 days.
Recorded sales can contribute to the personal average sale price shown in MarketLens item tooltips.
Sales are recorded locally when the corresponding Auction House mails are available in your mailbox.
MarketLens - Inventory
MarketLens - Inventory extends item tooltips with information about how many copies of an item you already own and where they are stored.
It can show items stored across:
- Your characters
- Character inventories
- Character banks
- Your Warband Bank
This makes it easy to check your existing stock without logging through multiple characters or searching through different banks.
Optional MarketLens Companion
The optional MarketLens Companion can keep your MarketLens market data updated automatically in the background.
This means you do not need to visit the Auction House and run a manual Scanner update whenever you want fresh market information.
The Companion also provides additional historical market data such as Market Value, 7-Day Average and 30-Day Average.
The Companion is completely optional. MarketLens can be used entirely in-game with the included Scanner.
The MarketLens Companion is available at www.wow-codex.de/marketlens.

Designed for the World of Warcraft interface
MarketLens integrates directly into the existing World of Warcraft Auction House and profession interfaces instead of replacing them with a separate trading system.
When using the default Blizzard interface, MarketLens follows the native World of Warcraft visual style.
If EllesmereUI is installed, MarketLens automatically adapts its supported Auction House modules to fit the EllesmereUI interface.
Why MarketLens?
MarketLens focuses on the Auction House and profession tasks you actually need:
- Check what an item is worth
- Scan current market prices
- Find potentially interesting deals
- See how many items you already own
- Buy materials for your tracked profession recipes
- Craft with useful cost and profit information
- Watch items until they reach a price you want to pay
- Sell items without blindly following suspicious undercuts
- Review your active auctions and completed sales
There are no complicated pricing operations or required configuration systems.
Install MarketLens, choose the modules you want and use the Auction House normally.
Data & Privacy
The in-game Scanner and Auction House modules read publicly available Auction House information through World of Warcraft's addon APIs.
Scanner stores only the latest local market snapshot. Watchlist stores local historical observations only for the specific items relevant to your Watchlist and Shopping Lists.
Buyer stores your manually created Shopping Lists locally and reads tracked profession recipes through World of Warcraft's addon APIs.
Purchase history, sales history, personal average prices and inventory information are stored locally in your World of Warcraft SavedVariables.
Sales information is collected from Auction House mails when you open your mailbox.
