Loading Screen Tips (New Player Guide)
World of Warcraft shows you a tip every time you load into the world, and then it
is gone. Some of them are genuinely useful, and you rarely get the one you need
at the moment you need it. This addon collects the whole set into a single window
you can open any time.
HOW TO OPEN IT
Type /lst in chat. The longer /loadingscreentips works too.
On Retail you can also click the addon compartment button next to the minimap.
The window can be moved and resized, and it remembers where you left it. Press
Escape to close it.
WHAT IS IN IT
Every loading screen tip your game version ships with, grouped into collapsible
categories with a tip count on each header. Retail currently has 186 tips,
Classic Era has 73.
Click a header to fold that section away, or use Expand all and Collapse all to
work through the list in chunks. The addon remembers which sections you had
closed the next time you open it.
The categories are:
Combat & Character
Quests
Grouping & Raids
PvP
Items & Gear
Professions & Crafting
Economy & Vendors
Consumables & Buffs
Travel & World
Social & Guild
Interface & Keybinds
Housing
Account & Support
Miscellaneous
Categories with no tips in your version are left out, so Classic Era shows twelve
sections rather than fourteen.
WHO IT IS FOR
Mostly new and returning players. WoW has twenty years of small mechanics,
shortcuts and systems layered on top of each other, and a lot of it gets
explained once, in passing, on a loading screen you were not reading. If you are
starting out, coming back after a few expansions, or just want to check something
you have not used in years, this gives you somewhere to look it up.
There is nothing to configure. Open it, scroll, close it.
SUPPORTED VERSIONS
Retail, Classic Era, Burning Crusade Classic, Wrath of the Lich King Classic,
Cataclysm Classic and Mists of Pandaria Classic. Each one gets its own tip list,
taken from that version of the game, because Blizzard rewrites and retires tips
between expansions.
A NOTE ON THE CATEGORIES
The game does not group its tips by topic, it only tracks when each one should be
shown. The categories above were put together for this addon by sorting the tips
on their wording, so the occasional tip may land somewhere you would not have put
it yourself. Everything that did not fit cleanly is in Miscellaneous rather than
forced into a category it does not belong in.
The addon does not change your character, automate anything, or touch gameplay.
It reads the tips your client already has and puts them somewhere you can find
them.
