Koda EPM
Calmer visuals for photosensitive players, with one command and a panic button.
Koda EPM (Epilepsy & Photosensitivity Mode) bundles the game's flash-reducing settings, including several hidden ones the Options menu doesn't show, behind a single toggle. It also gives you a panic key that blacks out your screen instantly when something on screen gets to be too much.
Features
🛡️ Safe Mode — /kepm
One command turns down the visual effects most likely to flash or strobe:
- Photosensitivity Mode (Blizzard's own setting for full-screen flashes and bright spells)
- Full-screen glow
- Death screen effect
- Nether and phasing screen effects
- Low-health screen edge flash
- Camera shake and UI shake
- Weather effects such as lightning storms
Safe Mode remembers your settings before it changes anything. Run /kepm again and everything goes back exactly the way you had it.
⬛ Panic Button — /kepm panic
Instantly covers the entire screen in black. Run it again to bring the game back.
- Works in combat
- Chat stays visible on top of the blackout, so you can always type
/kepm panicto come back, even without a keybind - Also switches Safe Mode on, so the screen is calmer when you return
- Designed to be put in a macro and bound to a key you can hit without looking

Setting up the panic key

/kepm panic - Drag the macro onto an action bar.
- Bind that action bar slot to a key that's easy to reach in a hurry.
Recommended companion settings
These are in the default Options menu and pair well with Safe Mode:
- Graphics › Spell Density: set to Essential to reduce party and raid spell visuals
- Accessibility › Camera Shake: set to None
- Accessibility › Motion Sickness: turn on if camera movement bothers you
- Lowering Brightness and Contrast makes every flash smaller
Good to know
- Safe Mode changes made during combat are queued and applied the moment combat ends, since the game can block some setting changes mid-fight. The panic button is never delayed.
- Some effects can't be turned off by any setting. Your own spell visuals, some boss abilities and some raid lighting stay at full intensity. Keep the panic key handy for those moments.
- Settings missing on your client are skipped safely, never errored. Use
/kepm statusto see exactly what's active. - Safe Mode stays on across reloads and logins until you turn it off.
⚠️ Important
Koda EPM reduces flashing effects. It cannot detect or block every flash, and it is not a medical device. If you have photosensitive epilepsy, please keep following your doctor's guidance, play in a well-lit room, take regular breaks and stop playing right away if you feel unwell.
Feedback
Found a flashy effect that Safe Mode doesn't cover? Please leave a comment with where it happened (zone, boss or spell) so it can be added in a future update.
