HelloMage

A lean, opinionated ability manager for WoW Classic Era Mages. It organizes your spells into compact Fire and Frost layouts, recommends the next cast, manages rank shortcuts, and keeps buffs, conjuring, travel, mana, casting, and range information close at hand—without ever casting for you.

Heads up—this is a personal work in progress. I build and evolve it while playing, so its defaults reflect my play style and features may change between releases. Feedback is welcome, but the addon will remain intentionally opinionated.

What it does

• Fire and Frost layouts. One button switches the combat bar between Fire and Frost, even during combat. Shared Arcane abilities appear in consistent positions on both layouts.
• Compact combat rows. Single-target spells occupy the first row and AoE spells the second. Unknown and untalented abilities collapse away without leaving gaps.
• Recommends your next cast. An animated glow highlights practical choices such as maintaining Improved Scorch, casting your elemental filler, interrupting an enemy, recovering mana, or using your wand while solo.
• Permanent defensive tools. Counterspell, Polymorph, Blink, Frost Nova, Evocation, Slow Fall, wards, shields, Ice Block, mana gems, and racials remain available regardless of the selected school.
• Mage combat information. Includes mana, an approximate five-second-rule timer, casting progress, spell range, cooldown sweeps, affordability, Polymorph duration, and Improved Scorch stacks.
• Smart buffs. Arcane Brilliance is used while grouped when it is learned and Arcane Powder is available. Otherwise the button falls back to Arcane Intellect; hold Ctrl to force Intellect. Missing Intellect and armor buffs receive the recommendation glow.
• Raid buff targeting. Choose which raid groups you are responsible for, and HelloMage creates Arcane Brilliance buttons that target a living member of each configured group.
• Conjuring and inventory counts. Food and water buttons show how many conjured items you carry. Mana-gem recipes share one row, while the combat gem button automatically uses your best available gem and turns gray when none is carried.
• Smart travel buttons. Transport defaults to Portal while grouped and Teleport while solo. Hold Ctrl to use Teleport in either situation.
• Rank-one shortcuts. Hold Ctrl to cast Rank 1 of ranked damage spells. Ctrl combines with other shortcuts, and tooltips update immediately to show the rank you will cast.
• Your keybinds. Enter binding mode, hover a visible button, and press a key. Bindings follow screen positions as learned abilities change.

Usage

• /hm — show available commands.
• /hm config — open settings.
• /hm bars [on|off] — show or hide the combat cluster.
• /hm castbar [on|off] — toggle the player cast bar.
• /hm pos [lock|unlock|reset] — lock, move, or recenter the cluster.
• /hm keys — enter keybinding mode.
• /hm keys clear|reset — clear or reset bindings.
• /hm school <fire|frost> — select a school.
• /hm utility [on|off] — show or hide the attached utility buttons.
• /hm reset — reset saved settings and reload.

Caveats

• Supports WoW Classic Era only.
• English spell, aura, talent, and item names are required in this release.
• HelloMage does not automate combat. It recommends abilities and provides secure buttons; you still choose and cast every spell.
• Recommendations are practical defaults for leveling, dungeons, and raids—not a simulator or complete rotation engine.
• Classic cannot reliably expose enemy count, movement, resistances, immunities, or safe AoE opportunities, so recommendations remain single-target focused.
• The addon is additive and leaves Blizzard and third-party action bars alone, except when its optional player cast bar is enabled.
