Description

HandyBar is a World of Warcraft Retail PvP arena addon for tracking enemy cooldowns.

It is built around two complementary workflows:

  • Manual tracking when you want full control
  • Automatic tracking for many enemy cooldowns that can be inferred from public arena information

If a cooldown can be detected reliably, HandyBar can start it for you.
If it cannot, you can still track it manually with one click.

This makes HandyBar useful as a hybrid arena cooldown tracker and a flexible OmniBar alternative rather than a purely automatic one.

What HandyBar Does

HandyBar creates spell bars that appear in arena only and show cooldowns relevant to the enemy team you are facing.

Out of the box, it can:

  • create default Defensives and Offensives bars
  • detect enemy class and specialization information during arena prep
  • filter displayed spells to the classes and specs present in the current match
  • assign icons to All Enemies, Arena 1, Arena 2, or Arena 3
  • duplicate icons when multiple enemies share the same class or spec
  • support both manual clicks and automatic cooldown starts

How Tracking Works

Manual Tracking

Visible icons can always be used manually:

  • Left-click: start cooldown
  • Right-click: reset cooldown

This is useful for spells that are hard to detect automatically or for players who prefer direct control.

Automatic Tracking

When enabled, HandyBar can automatically track many cooldowns using public arena signals.

The automatic tracking system is inspired by the Friendly CDs module from MiniCC.

Automatic tracking is intentionally best-effort.
Some spells can be detected reliably, while others may still require manual clicks if the game does not expose enough public information.

Main Features

  • Arena-only display with Test Mode for setup outside arena
  • Draggable and lockable bars with saved positions
  • Adjustable icon size, spacing, growth direction, wrapping, and display limits
  • Optional cooldown text
  • Optional class-colored icon borders
  • Per-bar visibility filters:
    • All Enemies
    • Arena 1 Only
    • Arena 2 Only
    • Arena 3 Only
  • Duplicate Same Spec/Class support
  • Optional Show Only Auto-Trackable Spells filter
  • Charge support for supported spells
  • Global cooldown duration overrides
  • Custom spell registration by Spell ID
  • Automatic tooltip-based cooldown extraction for custom spells
  • Optional icon tooltips
  • Optional debug mode
  • AceDB profiles
  • English and French localization

Quick Start

  1. Type /hb to open the options
  2. Enable Test Mode
  3. Unlock and place your bars
  4. Choose the spells you want on each bar
  5. Optionally enable Automatic Enemy Cooldown Detection
  6. Enter arena

On first run, HandyBar creates two default bars:

  • Defensives
  • Offensives

You can keep them, edit them, or create your own custom bars.

Slash Commands

  • /hb - open options
  • /handybar - open options
  • /hb test - toggle Test Mode
  • /hb lock - lock or unlock bars
  • /hb reset - reset active cooldowns

Notes

HandyBar is not designed to guess hidden information.

It works best as a hybrid tracker:

  • automatic tracking for cooldowns that can be inferred from public arena data
  • manual tracking for cooldowns that cannot be detected safely or reliably

For players looking for an OmniBar alternative, HandyBar offers a more flexible hybrid approach with both manual control and optional automatic tracking.
