Description
Garu Combat Text
An alternative way of implementing a scrolling combat text.
Garu Combat Text replaces a scroll of numbers with running totals. Each spell (or melee, wand, pet) gets one line that grows as you fight, coloured by school, with its icon. You see at a glance what's doing the work and what's hitting you.
On WoW Forever: live, despite the missing combat log
WoW Forever runs on the modern client, where addons can no longer read the combat log, and Blizzard's damage meter hides its numbers until a fight ends. Garu Combat Text stays live anyway. It reads the hits the game still reports as they land, then matches each one to your own casts and swings by timing and school, helped by what each spell's description says it does.
Solo, the matching is close to exact. In a group, a teammate's hit of the same school landing right after your cast can occasionally be counted as yours.
On TBC Anniversary the combat log is still there, and every feed reads it directly.
