ForeverBuffNag

A bouncing reminder when a buff, poison or tracking is missing before a pull -- click it to cast.

Forever Buff Nag

A buff reminder made for Forever's modern UI. When one of your buffs is missing, a button styled like your action bar bounces in the middle of your screen until you cast it.

Full disclosure: I'm a software engineer with 20+ years of experience, I built this with Claude Code doing most of the coding while I directed and tested it. I know people are sensitive about AI usage so I wanted to be upfront about it.

The nag

When one of your buffs is missing, a copy of its action bar button bounces in the middle of your screen until the buff is back.

  • Click it to cast. It always casts on you, at the highest rank you know.
  • Right-click for the group version. Once you know Arcane Brilliance, a Prayer, Gift of the Wild or a Greater Blessing, right-click casts that instead. The tooltip says what right-click does.
  • A choice where you have one. For your armor, aura, blessing, aspect or tracking, clicking opens a column of every one you know, with the one you used last nearest the button. Know only one, and it just casts it.
  • It looks like your bar. Built on the same button as your action bars, at the same size and spacing, and it greys or blues out with your rage or mana just as the spell's button on your bar does.
  • Out of combat only. It is there so you can prep. It also stays out of the way while you are dead, mounted or on a flight path.
  • No setup. It knows your class and only nags for spells you have learned. Drag it anywhere with /buffnag unlock.

Rogue poisons

Each weapon without a poison gets a button of its own, showing that weapon, main hand first. Click it and the poisons in your bags that you can use rise above it; click one to coat the weapon. The one you used last on that hand comes first.

A sharpening stone does not count — a weapon can carry a stone and a poison together, and one with only a stone still gets the reminder. There is no nag until you carry a poison you can use.

What it watches

  • Warrior — Battle Shout
  • Mage — Arcane Intellect, and an armor
  • Priest — Power Word: Fortitude, Inner Fire, Divine Spirit, Shadow Protection, and your racial: Shadowguard, Touch of Weakness or Fear Ward
  • Druid — Mark of the Wild, and Thorns
  • Paladin — an aura, and a blessing
  • Hunter — an aspect
  • Warlock — Demon Armor or Demon Skin
  • Shaman — Lightning Shield
  • Rogue — a poison on each weapon
  • Herbalists and miners — Find Herbs or Find Minerals

Group buffs count too: Arcane Brilliance, the Prayers, Gift of the Wild and the Greater Blessings all keep the nag quiet, whoever cast them.

Buff and debuff icons

A small touch for consistency: your buffs and debuffs in the top right get the same action bar frame as the reminder, so everything matches.

  • Debuffs keep their colour — blue for magic, purple for curse, green for poison, brown for disease — as the colour of the frame. In combat, Blizzard's own coloured border shows instead.
  • Low-time flashing still works, frame and all.
  • Right-click to cancel still works.

Commands

  • /buffnag unlock / /buffnag lock — show all your reminders and drag them into place.
  • /buffnag inspect — a report of what the addon sees, in a window you can copy from. Handy for bug reports.
