Follow The Arrow
What's new
FTA is now available for testing on the WoW Forever Beta! The final version for launch will have more routes included, but I wanted to make sure a testable version was put out before the end of Beta so I could gather feedback on the changes.
- Added complete leveling guides for all six original Classic starting zones: Northshire Valley (Human), Coldridge Valley (Dwarf/Gnome), Shadowglen (Night Elf), Valley of Trials (Orc/Troll), Deathknell (Undead), and Red Cloud Mesa (Tauren). These guides cover the early leveling experience, generally from Levels 1-6, including important breadcrumb quests that lead into the surrounding zones. All six starting zone routes have been designed from the ground up for WoW Forever.
- The addon now automatically detects your race and loads the appropriate starting zone, allowing you to begin leveling immediately after loading in.
- Class-specific instructions are included throughout the guides. These include introductory class quests, visiting trainers for recommended abilities, and additional quest chains that are only available to certain classes.
- There's now a small text description near the arrow to explain what it's telling you to do. This description is controlled separately from the Guide Window information, allowing for more precise instructions.
- New logic has been added to automatically detect progress for a variety of activities, such as setting/using Hearthstones, interacting with vendors, training abilities, or learning professions.
- Automation features have finally been added. Currently this includes: Auto Accept/Pickup Quests, Auto Sell Junk, Dialogue Skip, Manual Guide Step Skip, Auto Select Quest Rewards, Auto Repair Gear (when one piece is yellow or lower), Auto Bind Hearthstone, Auto Train Recommended Spells, Auto Purchase Recommended Items, and Auto Select Flight Paths.
- The Arrow has received some visual upgrades for it's arrival state. It's now 3D, and will spin once you've reached your objective. The distance display also changes to "Arrived" to indicate you're at your destination.
- A Targeting Macro has been added, it will update on every single guide step to automatically target the relevant NPCs when pressed.
- Interactable items will now display on the Guide Window. This includes quest items, Hearthstones, or miscellaneous on-use items that are required for leveling.
- Quest names are now automatically localized to your game's native language. Note that this ONLY applies to quest names, as they can be automatically filled in just by me using the associated QuestID. All of the addon descriptions are handwritten by me, so they're still only in English. I'd like to support full translations in the future, but this will take more time to properly set up.
- The Arrow should never disappear without properly explaining why it's gone. There are now "Manual Step" and "Wrong Instance" messages that show up in place of the arrow when it's hidden/unable to appear. Maybe I'll finally stop getting angry messages on Discord/YouTube/Curseforge about the Arrow being "broken".
- A lot of stuff was changed on the backend to allow for more precise routing, and I tinkered with the logic to make it incredibly hard for anyone to ever get stuck. I changed A LOT, I'm sure I've forgotten to mention something here.
- EVERYTHING listed above was designed to be cross-compatible with Retail and WoW Forever. Once the WoW Forever Beta ends, I'll work on getting all of these changes added to the Retail version of Follow The Arrow. Keep in mind that certain features (Auto Quest Rewards, Hearthstone/Quest Item Detection, etc), will require me to go back through each Retail guide file and tweak it to handle the new logic. I won't be doing this update pass until a few months from now, as it will take time and Forever is still the main focus. This shouldn't cause any bugs, it just means some features won't be visibly functioning in Retail until a later date.
