# Expanded Death Log
Blizzard's death recap shows your last ten hits. In a busy fight that can be a third of a second. **Expanded Death Log keeps the whole stretch before each death**: every hit, heal and avoided attack on you, in order, with the combat log's own line for each one beside it.
Type **/edl** to open it, or let it open by itself after you die.
## After each death
- **Timeline**: everything that happened to you in the last 60 seconds (you can set anywhere from 10 to 180). That means hits, crits, heals, misses, dodges, parries, blocks and absorbs. Each row shows how long before the death it happened, the amount, your health after it, and the combat log's sentence naming the spell and who cast it.
- **Killing blow**: a card at the top with the spell, caster, school, amount and overkill, plus a highlighted row in the timeline that no filter can hide.
- **Who healed you**: every heal is marked as yours, your pet's or an ally's, and its combat log line names the healer.
- **Blizzard's recap, merged in**: the recap's last ten hits are placed in the server's exact order, with your real health at each one.
- **Health column**: addons can't read your current health, so it is worked out from the recap's real values and the hits and heals in between. Exact values, estimates (~) and ranges are each shown as what they are.
- **By ability**: from Blizzard's damage meter. Every ability that hit you during the fight, with its total, its share and who cast it, plus your own healing spells. This view never expires.
- **Blizzard's recap**: the stock recap, with spell, caster and health at each hit.
- **Filters**: show or hide damage, healing, avoided attacks and unmatched lines. The moment of death is always shown.
- **Save as screenshots**: pages through the open view and saves each page as a screenshot.
## Your log
- Keeps your last 20 deaths per character (you can choose 5 to 50). Each character has its own log.
- Opens after each death and posts a one-line summary in chat. You can turn either off.
- Light on memory: deaths you aren't looking at are stored compactly, so a long history costs very little.
## Commands
- `/edl`: open the log (also `/deathlog`)
- `/edl options`: settings
- `/edl auto`: open after each death, on or off
- `/edl chat`: chat summary, on or off
- `/edl status`: current settings
- `/edl clear`: forget this character's deaths
- `/edl help`: list the commands
## Good to know
- **Set your Combat Log chat tab to "What happened to me?"** The addon keeps that tab's lines, and other filters leave out hits on you and other players' heals. The settings page and the chat summary tell you when the filter is set to something else.
- Since Midnight, addons can show combat log text but can't read it. The game drops those lines about 13 minutes after a death, and they can't be shown again after you log out. From then on, each row keeps its numbers, plus the spell and caster wherever Blizzard's recap or damage meter named them, or wherever you hovered a name while its line was still showing.
- The Combat Log only writes lines while its tab is open, so the addon keeps them coming while the tab is hidden, as the game does when it's showing. It never replays or refilters the combat log.
