What's new

What's new

One download, two clients: EnhancedTooltips now runs on WoW Classic Era (1.15, including Season of Discovery) and WoW Forever. Your settings carry over.

New

  • WoW Forever support. The features you know from Classic Era, adapted to Forever (see Known limitations below).
  • Spell coefficients (on by default, /et coefficients): spell tooltips show how much of your spell power (cyan line) or attack power (orange line) each part of the spell gets; "per tick" = for each tick of damage or healing over time. Shown in the spellbook, on action bars and at trainers (also for spells you don't know yet).
    • Classic Era: also on talents that teach a spell (Holy Shock, Pyroblast, Consecration, Shadowburn, …), learned or not.
    • WoW Forever: also on talent tree talents, learned or not.
    • /et status shows which game build the data comes from (orange if your client is a different build).
  • Buff/debuff type border: with Color the tooltip border on, buff and debuff tooltips get a border in their type color (Magic, Curse, Disease, Poison). A debuff without a type is red; a buff without a type keeps the normal border.
  • New option: Tint the background by buff/debuff type (on by default, /et tint): a light tint of the same type color behind the tooltip. Works with the border off too.
  • New option: Hide quest lines in dungeons and raids (WoW Forever only; off by default, /et questlines, minimap Alt + left-click): in a group inside a dungeon or raid, creature tooltips leave out all quest lines. Forever lists every group member's progress on a shared quest, so with several of you on the same quests a single mob's tooltip could grow huge.
  • Group finder tooltips: the group tooltip in the LFG browse list is now wide enough for every member row, the leader's crown sits right of the leader's name, and with centering on the rows and texts are centered. It gets the square border and follows the cursor like other interface tooltips.
  • WoW Forever: the client's own guild line becomes ET's guild line with the rank; the separate class line, creature type line and "Horde/Alliance" line are left out when ET's level line or the PvP line already says the same (the side line is colored like the PvP line otherwise). "Cast by" also names casters outside your group.
  • WoW Forever: world objects (herbs, ore, chests), corpses, minimap blips, item comparison tooltips and the group loot history are finished from their first frame, with no flicker. Loot history rolls: names right-aligned, the winner's check mark left of the name. Clicking the same chat link again closes its window (as on Classic Era).
  • Diagnostics: /et trace long and /et trace watch. /et trace and /et lines are now also saved in your SavedVariables (last 5), so they can be sent without copying the chat.

Changed

  • Square 1-pixel border on every tooltip, colored or not, instead of Blizzard's rounded border art. Uncolored tooltips get the client's own border color (grey on Classic Era, beige on Forever). Skinned borders (ElvUI) keep their own look.
  • Close button of chat-link windows: a small, thin cross inside the top-right corner, matching the square border. The title makes room for it.
  • Minimap button: Middle-click now toggles spell coefficients; soft name colors moved to Alt + middle-click. WoW Forever: Alt + left-click toggles the quest lines option. The Show the minimap button option's tooltip lists every click.
  • Options panel: Unit tooltip on player/target portraits is now Unit tooltip on player/target frames (same setting, /et portrait). Show "Cast by" moved to the right column, above Show IDs. The Defaults button is greyed out when everything is already at its default. Options that would change nothing on your client are hidden: Shaman in blue and Unit tooltip on player/target frames on Forever (it already does both), the quest lines option on Classic Era.
  • Target / Targeted by: no "Target:" line on your own tooltip (it only repeated your own target), and no "Targeted by" line when you're the only one targeting the unit. It appears as soon as someone else targets it too.
  • Health text: more space around the slash, e.g. "4.33k / 5.18k".
  • Player and target frame bars: hovering the health or mana bar always shows the unit tooltip (Blizzard shows nothing there), whatever the frames option is set to.
  • Blank separator lines inside tooltips (before "Right-click" hints, around addon sections such as Altoholic's) are now thin instead of a full empty line; several in a row take the room of one.
  • Fading tooltips (e.g. after leaving a unit frame) disappear at once instead of trailing the cursor for a moment.
  • Pawn: the item icon Pawn shows beside a clicked chat link's window now sits above its top-left corner, where the comparison tooltips (Shift) no longer cover it.

Fixed

  • Level numbers now use the same colors as Blizzard's target frame (some levels showed the wrong color).
  • Tooltips no longer show one frame at the wrong height when new content appears (a recipe tooltip, a "Targeted by" line appearing while you hover).
  • The unit border now changes together with the name color when a mob turns hostile or gets tagged by someone else while you hover it.
  • Long wrapped lines on item tooltips are centered on the tooltip's middle and wrap at the same width every time the tooltip refreshes (they could get narrower on each refresh).

Known limitations (WoW Forever)

WoW Forever hides some information from addons. EnhancedTooltips leaves those parts as the game draws them:

  • Buffs/debuffs in combat: no "Cast by", Spell ID, Icon ID, type border or background tint (all of them work out of combat).
  • The default target frame's buff/debuff tooltips get nothing from EnhancedTooltips at all, in or out of combat (no centering or border either). Buffs on nameplates, party frames and your buff bar work (out of combat).
  • Creatures inside dungeons and raids: no NPC ID and no "Targeted by" line. On the "Target:" line, long creature names can be cut off at the end (names up to about 24 letters fit). Name and border colors still follow the creature's reaction.
  • Health values on the tooltip's health bar always use a dot as the decimal mark (7.2k), and the total is rounded down (999k, not 1M).
  • Spell coefficients come from the Forever beta's game data (build 1.60.1.70425); /et status turns the build line orange if your client's build differs.
