DoorDoctor

Track Lua errors, investigate addon-related lag with on-demand performance scans, and create useful reports to share with addon authors.

🩺 DoorDoctor πŸ”

Find the Addon. Fix the Headache.

Your game freezes. Your frames disappear. Your addons are all acting innocent. πŸ‘€

DoorDoctor helps you investigate which addons deserve a closer look, combining an automatic error journal with on-demand performance scans, color-coded findings, and reports you can actually send to an addon author.

No randomly disabling half your interface and hoping for the best. Start with evidence, understand what it means, and narrow down the suspects.

Your raid has enough mechanics. Diagnosing your addons should not be another one.

πŸ” SCAN WHEN SOMETHING FEELS WRONG.

Experiencing stutters, freezes, or unexplained slowdowns? Open DoorDoctor, choose a scan duration, and press Scan while reproducing the problem.

DoorDoctor examines addon processing activity, expensive bursts of work, frame timing, connection readings, and recorded errors. Optional memory checks and addon-message counts provide additional context.

The results show addon names, descriptions, and color-coded investigation priorities, so you know what each suspect does and where to begin.

An addon does not have to throw a Lua error to deserve a performance check.

Close the window and keep playing while the scan runs. When it finishes, DoorDoctor automatically reopens with your results and plays its alert sound when sound is enabled.

The doctor will see your addons now. 🩺

πŸ› BUGCATCH: ERRORS HAVE A PAPER TRAIL.

DoorDoctor's built-in error journal can record errors even when no performance scan is running.

With the recorder set to Always, it watches for supported error reports while you play. Repeated errors are grouped with occurrence counts rather than becoming hundreds of identical entries.

Browse This session, Previous session, or All saved, search for an addon, and switch between a readable explanation and the original error details.

DoorDoctor examines file paths and call stacks to identify where an error appeared and which other addons were involved. Being mentioned in a stack does not automatically make an addon guilty.

Error collection and viewing are built in. No companion error addon is required.

πŸ“Š FINDINGS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND.

The What This Means for You panel explains what DoorDoctor observed, why it might matter, and what to try next.

You should not need to understand a wall of Lua to learn that an addon repeatedly interrupted smooth gameplay.

Color-coded priorities help you spot stronger findings, while incomplete measurements are identified rather than presented as an all-clear.

A high score means "investigate this first," not "this addon is definitely guilty." Large memory use alone is not proof of a problem, and appearing in an error stack is not an automatic conviction.

Evidence first. Pitchforks remain optional. πŸ”Ž

πŸ“ GIVE THE AUTHOR SOMETHING USEFUL.

"It lagged" is a feeling. A useful report gives the author something to investigate.

Copy Author Report focuses on the selected addon, including its version, available measurements, relevant errors, and captured call stacks.

Copy Full Report includes the broader scan when the situation involves multiple suspects.

Copy Error Report shares an individual journal entry without requiring a performance scan.

Add what happened, how to reproduce it, and what you expected. DoorDoctor assembles the details into copyable text.

Nothing is automatically posted or sent. Review the report before sharing, since error text and your own notes may contain identifying information.

πŸ”„ TEST THE SUSPECT. NOT YOUR PATIENCE.

Save a scan as your baseline, update or temporarily disable a suspected addon, and repeat the same situation.

Use Compare to review the before-and-after findings. Re-enable the suspect and test again to see whether the problem returns.

DoorDoctor does not automatically disable, delete, or repair other addons. You stay in control of the troubleshooting.

The goal is a repeatable improvement, not a lucky five minutes.

πŸ”” ALERTS WITHOUT THE ALARM ORCHESTRA.

The visible Alert Sound: ON / OFF button controls your error and scan-completion sounds.

Left-click to toggle alerts. Right-click to preview the sound.

Muting alerts does not stop error recording, and repeated errors do not pile overlapping copies of the clip on top of one another.

One problem is enough. It does not need a soundtrack performed by 600 simultaneous horns.

πŸ’€ PERFORMANCE SCANS STAY ON DEMAND.

Performance sampling runs during your requested capture and stops afterward. The automatic error journal operates separately.

Optional memory checks are off by default, and DoorDoctor excludes itself from the suspect rankings while reporting measured collection overhead separately.

On demand does not mean zero overhead. It means performance monitoring is not left running indefinitely after you finish investigating.

πŸ”§ GET STARTED.

Open DoorDoctor with /doordoctor, /ddoc, or its minimap button.

For Lua errors, open Errors and confirm the recorder is set to Always. For performance problems, press Scan while the issue is happening, then review the ranked findings.

DoorDoctor is an investigation tool, not a guaranteed diagnosis or an automatic FPS booster. It cannot reconstruct every past freeze or fix server, connection, graphics, or hardware problems. Capture the problem, review the evidence, and verify the suspect.
