Casual Quest Scout
Level normally. Help build the perfect leveling guide.
Casual Quest Scout is a silent leveling recorder for WoW: Forever. It runs in the background while you level and notes where quests start and end, what to kill, where things drop and how people get around. Everyone's data is merged into one dataset, and that dataset becomes a smooth step-by-step leveling-guide addon for the guild.
🛡️ Made by Consita for the guild <Casual>. Casual Quest Scout is our guild's project, but everyone is welcome to use it! If you level with it, please drop your data files in our Discord to support the project: discord.gg/KWhsCRNSvY. Every character makes the guide better.
🧪 Early project. Casual Quest Scout is being prepared for the WoW: Forever launch (November 2026). Expect a few quick updates in the first weeks while everything is checked on the live client.
Features
Zero burden
- No UI. There are no windows, popups, reminders or settings. Install it and forget it.
- No performance cost. It only listens to normal game events, with no combat-log parsing and no hooks into the Blizzard UI.
- Safe. Errors are caught silently and never interrupt your game.
- Small files. About 8 KB per hour played, so a full 1–60 character is roughly 2 MB.
Quests
- Where quests are picked up and turned in, and the NPCs that give them
- Which quests NPCs offer, including grey ones, which tells us the minimum levels
- Objective areas: where kills, loot and progress actually happen
- Rewards, reward choices, required items and failed quests
Mobs & loot
- What you kill, where, at what level, and the XP per kill
- Solo vs. group kills
- Quest item sources with honest drop rates (only corpses looted while the item was still needed count)
- Items that start quests: how many kills until they drop
Routes & travel
- The paths you walk, including cave and building entrances
- Flight paths, boats and zeppelins, portals, hearthstones and bind spots
- Graveyard runs and where people die
NPCs & progress
- Class and profession trainers (several moved in Forever) and what they teach at which cost
- Vendor stock and mailboxes
- XP per zone split into kills and quests, XP per hour, gold and rested XP per level
Private by design
- Records only your own character's name, class, race and in-game map data.
- No chat, no whispers, no other players. Nothing social is ever stored.
- Nothing is sent anywhere automatically. Your data stays in your own SavedVariables until you choose to send it.
Sending your data
Do this every now and then, for example every Sunday or every 10 levels.
First log out (or /reload) so the game saves your data. Then pick one of the two options:
Option A: only the Casual Quest Scout files (recommended if you don't know us)
Each character has its own small file that contains only Casual Quest Scout data:
<WoW folder>\_<Forever folder>_\WTF\Account<YOUR ACCOUNT><Realm><Character>\SavedVariables\CasualQuestScout.lua
Type /cqs file in game to see the exact path. Upload that CasualQuestScout.lua, one per character,
to our Discord: discord.gg/KWhsCRNSvY.
It's plain text, so you can open it in Notepad and see exactly what you're sharing.
Option B: one zip for all characters (easiest)
Right-click the WTF\Account<YOUR ACCOUNT> folder, choose Compress to ZIP file and drop
the zip in the Discord (guild members can also DM it to Consita). The zip also contains your other
addons' settings, macros and keybindings. The merge tool only reads the Casual Quest Scout files and
ignores everything else, but if that makes you uneasy, use option A.
Keep the addon on and send again later. Your newest data automatically replaces the old one, and file names don't matter.
Commands
All optional. You never need to type anything.
| Command | |
|---|---|
/cqs |
Show what has been collected so far |
/cqs file |
Show where your data file is saved |
/cqsexport |
Copyable text of your data (without walking paths; the zip is preferred) |
FAQ
Do I need to do anything while leveling? No. Quest, grind, die, hearth. Everything is useful data.
Can I lose data?
WoW only saves addon data on logout or /reload. If the game crashes, the session since your last
logout is lost. That's fine, so just keep playing.
What happens with the data? It's merged with everyone else's data into one leveling dataset, and that dataset is used to build a leveling-guide addon for the guild.
I'm not in <Casual>. Can I still help? Yes, please! Use the addon and drop your zip in our Discord. Data from every class, race and route helps.
Requirements
- None. Casual Quest Scout has no dependencies.
