Hi!
I got tired of using an entire personality trait slot for traits that really feel more like lifestyle choices.
I completely understand why EA made Vegetarian and Lactose Intolerant into personality traits, but why not make them Reward Traits instead? That way, anyone who wants to roleplay Sims with these characteristics can do so without sacrificing an entire personality slot. Then again, I'm sure the developers had their reasons.
After all, if everything were perfectly logical and ideal, we modders would be out of our favorite hobby... and might even have to actually play the game instead of modding it. 😄
What this mod does
1. Moves the traits to the Reward Store
The Vegetarian and Lactose Intolerant traits are moved from the CAS personality trait category to the Reward Store, where they can be obtained as Reward Traits.
2. Smart random trait assignment
The mod can randomly assign one or both of these traits to Sims throughout your save.
The chance of receiving a trait depends on a Sim's age. For example, Elder Sims are more likely to become Lactose Intolerant than Young Adults, reflecting how lactose tolerance often decreases with age.
Whenever a Sim ages up, there is also a chance that they will lose one of these traits, lose both, or even replace one with the other. After all, our eating habits and lifestyles can change over the course of our lives, and we don't always follow the same dietary choices we made as children or teenagers.
Of course, if this doesn't fit your gameplay or storytelling, you can always add the traits back yourself from the Reward Store, they're completely free.
What happens after installing the mod?
- ALL Sims in your save (played and unplayed) will lose the Vegetarian and Lactose Intolerant traits that were previously selected in CAS.
- You'll have a free personality trait slot that you can use for any other trait you like.
- Played Sims are randomized immediately, so it's a good idea to check their Reward Traits after installing the mod.
- Unplayed Sims are randomized gradually as they visit the residential or community lot where your active Sim is currently located.
Approximate chances for how the mod works are shown in the table under spoiler
Vegetarian Trait
When the mod processes a Sim for the first time, their chance of receiving the Vegetarian trait depends on their current age:
| Age | Chance to be Vegetarian |
|---|---|
| Child | 4.76% |
| Teen | 7.41% |
| Young Adult | 13.04% |
| Adult | 10.71% |
| Elder | 12.28% |
Vegetarianism is not necessarily permanent. As Sims grow older, there is a chance that their eating habits will be reconsidered.
| When aging up to… | Chance to reconsider | If not Vegetarian → become Vegetarian |
If Vegetarian → stop being Vegetarian |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teen | 15% | 1.24% | 5% |
| Young Adult | 40% | 6.94% | 3% |
| Adult | 30% | 4.36% | 3% |
| Elder | 35% | 6.07% | 1% |
The first percentage is the chance that the Sim's vegetarian status will be reconsidered at all. If that happens, the mod rolls their Vegetarian trait again using the age-based probabilities.
So Sims can become Vegetarian later in life, and existing Vegetarians can also change their eating habits.
Lactose Intolerant Trait
When a Sim is processed for the first time, their chance of receiving the Lactose Intolerant trait increases with age:
| Age |
Chance to be Lactose Intolerant |
|---|---|
| Child | 11.11% |
| Teen | 13.98% |
| Young Adult | 17.53% |
| Adult | 20.00% |
| Elder | 38.46% |
Unlike Vegetarianism, Lactose Intolerance works mostly in one direction.
A Sim who can tolerate lactose may develop lactose intolerance as they age:
| When aging up to… | Chance to check for a change | Actual chance to develop Lactose Intolerance |
|---|---|---|
| Teen | 25% | 0.52% |
| Young Adult | 40% | 1.35% |
| Adult | 50% | 2.49% |
| Elder | 100% | 6.98% |
The difference between these two percentages is intentional. Aging up determines whether the mod performs a new check at all; the Sim must then pass the age-based Lactose Intolerance roll.
Once a Sim has developed the Lactose Intolerant trait, normal aging will not remove it.
So, in short:
Vegetarian: Sims may become Vegetarian or stop being Vegetarian as their lives and eating habits change.
Lactose Intolerant: Sims who don't have the trait may develop it as they get older, with the chance increasing with age. Once acquired, the trait remains.
