Automatic Social Bunny deactivation for adult Sims

Back in 2024, the brilliant TURBODRIVER pointed out that Social Bunny creates unnecessary simulation load and can contribute to save lag. He also released a fix that helps reduce the issue.

I highly recommend downloading it! It works perfectly alongside my mod!

Since then, the developers haven’t really done anything to solve the problem. Maybe they couldn’t… or maybe they simply didn’t want to.
Either way, it’s time to take matters into our own hands.

Another amazing modder, Coolspear, suggested a very simple idea: just. disable. Social Bunny. for everyone.
But of course, nothing in The Sims is ever truly simple. 😅

To disable Social Bunny properly, each Sim needs to receive the hidden “Social Bunny deactivated” trait. Technically, Sims who never enabled it in the first place should probably already have that trait… but that’s a whole different story.

As you probably know, there is no normal way to disable Social Bunny except manually loading into a Sim and clicking through the menu yourself.
And doing that for every Sim in a save with 400+ Sims (or 600–700 in my case) is completely unrealistic.

So Coolspear created a mod to automate the process.

Since I personally try to avoid override mods whenever possible, I decided to create my own version of this idea.

My goal was simple:
Any adult Sim appearing on a lot should receive the hidden “Social Bunny disabled” trait and... that’s it.

Most importantly, I wanted my mod to leave absolutely no traces behind after doing its job.

Mission accomplished. 😎

What this mod does
🔹 Whenever a young adult, adult, or elder Sim spawns on a lot, they temporarily receive a hidden buff that silently disables Social Bunny using the game’s own code.

🔹 The Sim then receives the hidden trait marking Social Bunny as disabled, and the game no longer treats them as an active Social Bunny user.

🔹 The temporary buff automatically disappears after 20 Sim minutes.

That’s all.

Installation
Simply place the file into your Mods folder.
Make sure Lot51_core is installed and up to date - LINK

IMPORTANT

1. ALL young adult, adult, and elder Sims in your save will be affected.

Playable Sims, NPCs, townies — EVERYONE.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS MOD if you do not want that behavior.

Although honestly… I have no idea who is still trying to roleplay social media through Social Bunny for adult Sims. 😂

2. TEENS ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS MOD.

This was completely intentional.

First, I actually like the Maxis idea of a teen-only social network.

Second… when else are Sims supposed to post absolute llama nonsense online if not during their teenage years? 😂

And third — teens will grow up and automatically receive the hidden trait later if my mod is installed anyway. Let them enjoy being chaotic teenagers while they still can.

Compatibility

This mod should never conflict with anything. Future breakage is also extremely unlikely unless Lot51_core itself somehow breaks… and may the great Sim gods protect us from such an apocalypse 🙏🏼
