My Room My Stuff

Grants room ownership to Sims based on bed assignment. Sims prefer using items in their own rooms and avoid using items in rooms owned by others.

⚠️ Status: TESTED & COMPATIBLE with the August 6th, 2026 Patch (PC/Mac: 1.126.78).

My Room My Stuff

by deadlystingnyc

Your child Sim wants to read a book. They walk past the bookshelf in their own room and grab it from their sibling's bookcase across the house. Your adult Sim needs the bathroom and wanders to a distant toilet instead of using their own ensuite. My Room My Stuff gives every household Sim a sense of "this belongs to me".

Why You Need This

Sims have no concept of personal space or personal belongings. They gravitate toward whatever object is nearest or available, basically whatever the game hands them, with no regard for whose room they are walking into or whose things they are using. In a busy household this creates constant low-level chaos that quietly ruins immersion. This mod fixes it by assigning furniture to the Sim or Sims who sleep nearby.

How It Works

Assign a bed to a Sim the normal way (click the bed, then Assign Bed To) and the mod treats that bedroom as theirs. Everything in it becomes their stuff: the dresser, the mirror, the desk, the bookshelf. A walk-in closet or ensuite opening off the bedroom counts as part of it. Sims will cross the house to use their own things rather than settle for whatever is nearest, and they will stay out of other people's bedrooms.

Both sides of a double bed count, so a couple shares a room and everything in it. A room with two assigned beds belongs to both Sims.

Bathrooms follow a preference order. A Sim uses their own ensuite first, then a bathroom their bedroom shares with another (a Jack-and-Jill between two children's rooms belongs to both), then any bathroom nobody has claimed. Someone else's bathroom is a last resort. If the need is urgent enough, or there is genuinely nowhere else to go, they will use it without hesitating. A Sim also passes over a fixture someone else is already using and picks a free one instead.

Houseguests are steered to a bathroom nobody lives owns, but only when the house has a non-owned one that does the job. A guest is allowed in somebody's ensuite if it holds the only toilet or the only tub/shower on the lot.

Routing. Sims walk around bedrooms that are not theirs when there is another way round. It is a preference, not a wall. If the only route to somewhere runs through a bedroom they still take it.

What always belongs to everyone:

  • Laundry and kitchen equipment, wherever it stands
  • Fridges, ovens, and dishwashers
  • Bins and plumbing in kitchens, utility rooms, and hallways

What is never blocked:

  • Anything you click. The mod only influences autonomous choices.
  • Caring for someone: tucking in a child, comforting a toddler, feeding an infant, playing with a pet. These target the Sim or pet, not the furniture.
  • Service Sims: maids, nannies, repair technicians, gardeners, butlers, and delivery Sims work wherever the job takes them.

Configuration

Optional. Place mrms_config.cfg next to the .ts4script in your Mods folder to customize behavior. The file is re-read every time you load a lot so changes take effect as soon as you travel or reload.

Setting Default What It Does
owner_multiplier 5.0 How strongly a Sim prefers their own room's things
intruder_multiplier 0.05 How strongly they avoid someone else's
penalize_household true Set to false to discourage only visitors, leaving the family free
shared_bathroom_multiplier 2.0 Preference for a bathroom shared with their room
occupied_multiplier 0.5 Preference for a fixture someone else is already using
urgency_threshold -70.0 Need level at which a Sim stops avoiding another's bathroom
routing_enabled true Whether Sims walk around rooms that are not theirs
routing_cost 500.0 How far out of their way they will go to avoid a room

Requirements

  • The Sims 4 (base game only, no packs required)

Installation

  1. Download deadlystingnyc_my_room_my_stuff.zip
  2. Drop the unzipped folder into your Mods folder: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/
  3. In-game, go to Game Options → Other and make sure Script Mods are enabled

Compatibility

Works alongside Get Up and Go, picking a bathroom for the morning routine itself rather than leaving it to autonomy. Neither mod requires the other and neither interferes with the other.

No tuning overrides. May conflict with other mods that modify the same autonomy scoring methods.

Hi, I'm deadlystingnyc! I've been playing Sims since way back in the Sims 1 days! I'm a Sr. SDET by day, and in my off hours I make mods I want in my own Sims 4 game. I'm so happy that other people seem to like them too!
