💫 Background & Vision

For the longest time, I’ve wanted a way to place small, functional “shops” anywhere in the world — not full retail businesses, but simple little spots where active Sims can buy groceries, books, seeds, adventure gear, or other specialty items without building or running an entire store.

This mod was created to fill exactly that gap: lightweight, flexible micro‑shops that make your worlds feel more interactive, practical, and fun to explore.

🛒 What This Mod Adds

With Custom Shop Types, you can turn any Retail Register (Get To Work) or Ticket Machine (Businesses & Hobbies) into a fully functional micro‑shop — on any lot type. Your Sims can browse and buy items through smooth, self‑service menus, making this a lightweight and performance‑friendly way to add more shopping options to your worlds.

You can also have multiple shop types on the same lot to build malls, cafés with book corners, cozy community hubs, adventure kiosks, or whatever fits your save’s world‑building.

✨ How it Works

🛠️ Custom Shop Settings

In live mode, shift‑click any Retail Register or Ticket Machine (with cheats enabled) to open the Custom Shop Settings menu. From here you can set Shop Type and Shop Pricing.

These settings are stored on the object itself, so any Sim can use or adjust them whenever needed.

➡️ Set Shop Type

Choose which Shop Type the register or ticket machine should use. Once assigned, the object instantly becomes a micro‑shop with its own curated item list, pricing, and custom buffs.

🪙 Set Shop Pricing

Choose the price level for the micro‑shop. This lets you create everything from cozy budget kiosks to high‑end specialty shops.

Available Pricing Options:

Normal – 25% markup
Pricey – 50% markup
Exorbitant – 100% markup

Pricing applies to all items sold through that specific register or ticket machine.

🛒 Purchase Items

Once a Shop Type is assigned, simply click the register or ticket machine to open its shop menu. Choose Buy… to access a curated shopping picker filled with items selected for that specific shop type. The categories and items you see will automatically adjust based on the packs you own.

✨ Purchased items are delivered instantly to your Sim’s inventory — or to the Household Inventory for larger, non‑draggable objects.

🛠️ Change Shop Settings Anytime

You can adjust the shop’s settings in live mode whenever you want. The shop is linked to the object, not to a specific Sim — so any Sim in your household can update the Shop Type or Pricing at any time. 🙌

🎨 Create Multiple Shops on the Same Lot

You can assign different Shop Types to multiple registers or ticket machines on the same lot — there’s no limit. Build malls, cafés with book corners, cozy community hubs, adventure kiosks, or tiny corner shops that make your worlds feel more alive.

Picture above: In my Threads of Life save, I’ve added two micro‑shops to the Crumbling Pier Supply lot in Windenburg: one Adventure Shop and one Grocery Shop.

EXTRA FEATURES

📦 Wholesale Prices

If a register or ticket machine is placed on a lot your Sim owns — retail, small business, or even residential — they automatically gain access to wholesale prices for that shop type.

Wholesale Discount:

20% off the normal price markup

This feature is perfect for shop‑owning Sims who want to restock their physical stores with groceries, garden supplies, adventure gear, apothecary ingredients, or anything else. Just click the register and purchase items directly at the discounted rate.

✨ Custom Buffs for each Shop Type

Every Shop Type comes with its own custom Happy buff, complete with maxis‑match icons and text. Your Sim receives the buff after making a purchase, adding a small cozy touch of personality to each micro‑shop.

✨ Available Shop Types (v. 1.0)

The first version of Custom Shop Types includes five curated micro‑shops, each with its own item lists, categories, and gameplay flavor:

🥕 Grocery Shop
🌸 Garden Shop
📚 Bookshop
⛺ Adventure Shop
🌿 Apothecary Shop (requires Enchanted by Nature EP to show up in-game)

Each shop type is built from carefully curated items across many packs, with item lists and categories that automatically show depending on the packs you own.

🥕 Grocery Shop

The Grocery Shop offers a curated selection of everyday essentials — fresh produce, cooking ingredients, drinks, and artisan goods like canning items and cakes. This is perfect for adding multiple grocery shops across your save in different worlds.

🌸 Garden Shop

The Garden Shop focuses on everything your Sims need for gardening and outdoor crafting — flowers, seeds, fertilizers, pots and planters, and outdoor crafting items. It’s perfect for adding small plant kiosks, greenhouse corners, or full garden centers across different worlds in your save.

Note: Some Special Objects will unlock when your Sim reach Gardening Skill Level 10!

📚 Bookshop

The Bookshop offers all available books in-game — novels, skill books, children’s books, occult tomes and more. Perfect for creating tiny corner bookstores, library gift‑shops, café book nooks, or full community bookshops across different worlds in your save.

⛺ Adventure Shop

The Adventure Shop is all about exploration and outdoor gameplay — purchasing gear like tents, lanterns, bug spray, coolers, climbing equipment, survival items, and other travel essentials. Perfect for adding hiking kiosks, forest ranger stations, beachside adventure stands, or small travel‑supply corners in any world across your save.

🌿 Apothecary Shop

The Apothecary Shop offers all apothecary ingredients and all apothecary-skill crafted items such as Ailments Cures and Elixirs. It’s perfect for creating a maxis-match nature‑healing store in any world across your save.

Note: Some special objects will unlock when your Sim reach Apothecary Skill Level 10!

EXTRA INFORMATION

💚 Item Selection & Pack Safety

Each shop type above is built from carefully curated items hand-picked by me across many packs — including all individual color‑variant IDs — to create fun, steady, and pack‑safe product lists for every shop and sub‑category.

Most key items in each category are included, with a few rare versions intentionally locked behind skill levels. For example, Magic Seeds only appear at Gardening level 10, and certain Apothecary items unlock the same way, just like in the regular (non‑modded) game.

🌸 Shop Behavior & Limitations

These micro‑shops do not generate profit and do not function as ownable retail. They are designed as lightweight, world‑building shops for active Sims.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

🎮 Pack Requirements

You must have Get To Work or Businesses & Hobbies EP installed (or both), since these packs provide the objects (register / ticket machine) this mod injects its interactions into.

Aside from these required packs, the mod works with any combination of other packs.

🔧 Compatibility with other Mods

This mod should be fully compatible with other mods since it does not override any in-game tuning, it only adds multiple new tunings.

If you use custom CC for Registers (Get To Work WP) or Ticket Machines (Businesses & Hobbies EP), they should also work great with this mod!

IMPORTANT NOTE

⚠️ Vanilla GTW Register Bug (Not Caused by This Mod)

Retail Registers from Get to Work have a small vanilla bug that triggers an LE when hovering over a register placed on a non‑retail lot. This happens even without mods, and therefore also when using this mod on non‑retail lots.

If you want to avoid it, you can use the Ticket Machines (Business & Hobbies) instead, or install ➡️ Kuttoe’s small bug fix (recommended). You can also upvote the official bug report.
