CAS Marriage Fix

Taking a married couple into CAS should be routine. Instead it can silently strip their marriage, revert them to partners, and tear down every in-law and step relation they had, with no warning and no way to undo it once you save. CAS Marriage Fix prevents that from happening.

This Is an EA Bug

This is not caused by mods. It has been reported to EA and is not fixed as of the current patch. Players have reported it across different worlds, save files, and pack setups. Until EA fixes it, this mod prevents the damage.

What Happens Without This Mod

When a married couple is taken into CAS, the Sim's saved record comes back with the spouse pointer set to zero. When the game reloads the household it compares that empty pointer against the family tree, concludes the Sim is not married, and deletes the marriage to match. The family tree shows no spouse, the relationship panel reads Partner instead of Spouse, and all in-law and step relations are torn down with it. Nothing is archived and no notification is shown, so the loss is silent and permanent once you save.

How It Works

The mod restores the missing spouse pointer from the family tree at the moment the Sims are reloaded from CAS, before the comparison happens. The mismatch never occurs so the marriage is never torn down.

Your Sims will still show as partners while inside CAS. The pointer is already gone by then and the mod repairs it on the way back out.

Limits

• This mod cannot recover a marriage that was already lost and saved. Once the marriage has been torn down and the game saved, the family tree link is gone and there is nothing left to restore from. Use a save from before the loss.
• It does not fix the underlying problem, which is in the game's own CAS code. It prevents the damage that follows.
• It only restores a marriage when the spouse pointer is missing entirely and the family tree still records the couple as married. A Sim whose pointer names a different partner is left alone.

Requirements

• The Sims 4 (base game only, no packs required)

Installation

1. Download and unzip the zip file
2. Drop the unzipped deadlystingnyc_cas_marriage_fix folder into your Mods folder: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/
3. In-game, go to Game Options → Other and make sure Script Mods are enabled
4. Restart the game if it was already running

Safe to add or remove at any time. Removing it simply restores the game's default behavior.

Compatibility

Patches family_tree_service.push_sims_to_graph. Any other mod that replaces that same method may conflict.
