Caregiving Core
Caregiving Core is a standalone gameplay system for The Sims 4 that allows Sims to receive help with basic everyday needs when they are unable to manage them independently.
Sims marked as Care Recipients can receive help with Food, Hygiene, and Bladder needs while they are resting in supported positions. Care can be directed by the player, and some NPCs may also step in autonomously when a Care Recipient needs help.
The system is designed as a reusable support framework rather than a condition by itself.
Features
- Help With Food, Hygiene, and Bladder interactions
- Care Recipient system that can be used independently of other Chronic Project mods
- Extended bed Relax, allowing Sims to remain resting for approximately 4 Sim-hours unless manually canceled
- Player-directed caregiving between household Sims
- Autonomous caregiving from eligible service NPCs and some non-household Sims when needs become low
- Caregiving-related moodlets and small relationship consequences
Caregiving does not automatically take control of active household Sims. Household caregiving remains player-directed.
Care Recipients
Other Chronic Project modules can automatically identify Sims who need care. For example, Bedridden automatically makes an affected Sim a Care Recipient when both mods are installed.
However, Bedridden is not required.
You can manually make the currently selected Sim a Care Recipient with:
rmv.care_recipient_add
To remove manually assigned Care Recipient status:
rmv.care_recipient_remove
Manual Care Recipient status persists normally through gameplay, saving, reloading, and travel.
Part of the Chronic Project
Caregiving Core is part of the Chronic Project, a growing collection of modular gameplay systems focused on chronic conditions, caregiving, mobility, and the everyday consequences those systems can create.
The project is being built as separate modules rather than one all-or-nothing overhaul. You can install only the pieces that fit the stories you want to play.
Caregiving Core is designed to be reused by multiple current and future Chronic Project conditions rather than belonging to one specific illness or trait.
The general design philosophy is simple: program the constraint and the support, and let The Sims generate the story.
