Bedridden
Bedridden is a gameplay trait for Sims with severely limited energy. These Sims can get out of bed, socialize, work on hobbies, and move through the world—but doing so comes at a very real cost.
For a Bedridden Sim, simply being up and active is exhausting. Standing, walking, and most active activities drain Energy at 15× the normal rate. Depending on how much Energy they start with, a Sim who tries to push through their day may be at risk of collapsing within an hour or less.
Sitting down makes a huge difference. Supported seated activities reduce the drain to 1.5× normal, allowing Bedridden Sims to stay involved for much longer—but even sitting still takes a toll. Eventually, they need genuine rest.
Sleeping, relaxing in bed, lounging, and other recognized resting postures return them to ordinary Energy behavior and give them the chance to recover.
The goal is not to force your Sim to stay in bed permanently. It is to make energy itself into a resource that has to be planned around.
Gameplay Features
- 15× Energy drain while standing, walking, or otherwise active.
- 1.5× Energy drain while sitting or using supported seated postures.
- Normal Energy behavior while properly resting, sleeping, or relaxing.
- At 20% Energy or below, Bedridden Sims become +2 Dazed with the “I Need to Sit Down” moodlet: “This Sim is pushing past their limits and starting to feel dizzy.”
- Additional small storytelling moodlets can appear depending on how your Sim has been resting, including Feeling Well Today, Finally Comfortable, and Restless.
- The mod recognizes many different seated and resting postures rather than only checking whether a Sim is technically “in bed.”
Bedridden Sims can still have full lives—but errands need planning, outings may need breaks, and a chair can suddenly become extremely valuable.
Wheelchairs and Mobility CC
I have also made bike sitting count as a supported seated posture.
That means custom ambulatory wheelchair or mobility-aid CC that works by overriding or reusing the game's bicycle system/posture should be treated as sitting by Bedridden rather than as ordinary standing activity.
This can give Bedridden Sims considerably more freedom outside the house while still respecting their limited Energy.
Compatibility will depend on how the individual CC creator built their mobility object, so I cannot guarantee that every wheelchair or mobility mod will be recognized.
Adding the Trait
Bedridden is available through the game's Rewards Store as a Reward Trait.
You can also add or remove it directly through the cheat console. The commands affect the currently selected Sim.
Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C and enter:
testingcheats true
To add Bedridden:
traits.equip_trait RMV_Chronic_Bedridden_Trait
To remove Bedridden:
traits.remove_trait RMV_Chronic_Bedridden_Trait
Works With Caregiving Core
Bedridden can be used completely on its own, but it is also designed to work with my Caregiving Core mod.
When both mods are installed, Bedridden Sims are automatically recognized as Care Recipients. Other Sims can help them with food, hygiene, bladder needs, and extended relaxation—making it much easier to support a Sim whose Energy makes ordinary self-care difficult.
Caregiving Core is optional and must be downloaded separately.
Restorative Massage
If you own Spa Day, my upcoming Restorative Massage add-on provides another way to support Sims with limited Energy.
A successful Restorative Massage gives the recipient a long-lasting restorative state that slows their Energy loss by half. For a Bedridden Sim, that can make the difference between having enough Energy to participate in something and needing to return to bed almost immediately.
Restorative Massage is a separate optional download and requires Spa Day.
Requirements
XML Injector v4.2 is required.
No other Chronic Project mod is required to use Bedridden.
