Better Conversations improves how conversations look, feel, and flow. Sims stand closer and face each other, stay seated while they talk, chat about things they actually care about, and stick with conversations that are going well instead of wandering off.

It’s made up of five separate modules that can be installed independently of one another, so you can customize the experience to fit your playstyle:

• Stand Closer: Makes Sims gather closer together and face the Sims they are talking to.
• Stay Seated: Encourages seated Sims to remain seated throughout conversations, even when another Sim joins.
• Idle Chat: Improves idle chat and, when paired with my Interests mod, gives Sims meaningful topics to talk about.
• Easier Boredom: Makes Sims tire of hearing the same social interactions repeated sooner.
• Conversation Focus: Keeps Sims engaged in conversations that are going especially well instead of wandering off to do something else.

The combined result is more natural conversations where Sims position themselves better and feel more engaged with the Sims they are talking to.

⭐ Module 1: Stand Closer

The base game is fairly loose about where Sims position themselves during conversations, which often leaves groups spread far apart or awkwardly angled away from one another.

This module makes Sims much more particular about their positioning. They prefer to stand a bit closer together and place much more importance on actually facing the Sim they are talking to.

⭐ Module 2: Stay Seated

This module makes it so that seated Sims will no longer stand up in the middle of a conversation for no reason. When another Sim joins the conversation, seated Sims are also less likely to be pulled to their feet just so the group can rearrange itself.

⭐ Module 3: Idle Chat

Idle Chat is the interaction Sims perform between regular social interactions. Normally, it pulls from the same generic set of topics regardless of who is talking and always gives the same small friendship gain, even when the conversation itself is awkward, tedious, or hostile.

This module fixes that. Idle chatter during negative conversations now causes a small friendship loss instead of inexplicably improving the relationship.

With my Interests mod installed, Sims can also chat about subjects they actually care about. How well it lands depends on the listener:

• If they share the interest: Their friendship has a chance to increase slightly, and the conversation improves.
• If they dislike the interest: Their friendship has a chance to decrease slightly, and the conversation takes a hit.

⭐ Module 4: Easier Boredom

The game has a boredom system that makes repeated social interactions less successful after Sims hear them too many times in a row, but the default limits are high enough that it rarely comes into play.

This module lowers those limits, causing Sims to tire of repetition sooner and encouraging autonomy to choose something different.

⭐ Module 5: Conversation Focus

Sims will often leave a conversation that is going well to autonomously start some other unrelated activity. This module keeps them engaged, like in past games.

Once a conversation reaches one of the game’s higher states, such as an Engaging Conversation, Hilarious Repartee, Amorous Exchange, or Steamy Exchange, the Sims taking part stop autonomously wandering off to do something unrelated.

📝 Note: Engaging Conversation is a custom Friendly Social Context included in the SharedTuning file. Without it, Friendly conversations can only reach the game’s default Pleasant Conversation state.

Another one of my mods also includes this same file. You only need one copy of tyjokr_SharedTuning_EngagingContext in your Mods folder, but having multiple copies will not hurt your game.
