In The Sims 3, you don’t always get to choose your Sim’s traits as they grow up. If they fall behind on skills or struggle in school, the game assigns one for you. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes not.
I’ve always liked the variety that adds. In The Sims 4, it’s easy to fall into picking the same traits over and over, and there’s not much challenge in that. This mod brings that variety and challenge back.
What This Mod Does
Now when your Sim ages up, the game may choose their new trait for you. Like TS3, whether you get to pick the trait or not depends on how well your Sim performed in their previous life stage.
Infant → Toddler
Outcome is based on the reward trait your infant receives.
- ⭐ Top-Notch Infant: You choose the trait
- Happy Infant: Random trait, negative traits excluded
- Unhappy Infant: Random trait assigned
Toddler → Child
Outcome is based on the reward trait your toddler receives.
- ⭐ Top-Notch Toddler: You choose the trait
- Happy Toddler: Random trait assigned, negative traits excluded
- No reward trait: Random trait assigned
Child → Teen & Teen → Young Adult
Outcome is based on your child or teen's performance at school.
- ⭐ A grade: You choose the trait
- B grade: Random trait assigned, negative traits excluded
- C grade or not enrolled: Random trait assigned
- D or F grade: Random negative trait assigned
Newborn → Infant
Outcome is now always randomized.
Trait Randomization Rules
You’ll still be able to choose your children and teens' aspirations regardless of their school performance. Only their new trait is subject to randomization.
All traits available in CAS are eligible for randomization, including any modded traits you have installed. What counts as a “negative” trait is defined by a curated list included within the mod.
If you’re a modder and would like any of your traits to be added, feel free to reach out. The same goes for players using custom traits. If there are traits you think should be included, let me know and I’ll add them.

Compatibility
⚠️ This mod will conflict with graycurse's Random Traits & Aspirations
ℹ️ This mod should be compatible with thepancake1 and MizoreYukii's More Traits in CAS, but I haven't tested it.
This mod was made possible by Sims 4 Studio and Tuning Builder.
