Magitech Cosmos

Magitech Cosmos is a modpack that expands the Minecraft experience into an immersive and epic journey of technology and magic. Start from wood and sticks and work your way up to interstellar starships, while learning the nature of your existence within the game's universe.

FEATURES / GOALS

• Freedom. This defining aspect of the game has been expanded in Magitech Cosmos by several orders of magnitude. The modpack contains a vast array of engaging gameplay possibilities, thanks to the best magic and tech mods, which have been heavily configured to work together as part of a unified whole.
• Over 40 unique planets and moons to explore. Most are designed with realistic astrophysical concepts and details, but there are many unusual and unconventional worlds to discover.
• Tweaked and rebalanced mechanics, for both the vanilla game and the pack's constituent mods. Most of the illogical annoyances have been configured away. Everything works better and makes more sense as a result. Basically, there are far fewer cheap/arbitrary mechanics now.
• An immersive in-game guide that provides information on the modpack's major features and multiblock structures.
• Minimal bloat and redundancies. Most blocks, items, mobs, and machines have a unique purpose or design niche.
• High gameplay and immersion standards. Only well-made and useful mods are included in the pack. Over 300 mods were carefully feature-tested and documented during the modpack's initial development, with >30,000 words of notes and other internal documentation. I even helped develop a few. If your mod made it in, you have my thanks for helping make this modpack possible.

Okay, enough grandiose advertising. This modpack started as a personal project after I got tired of the poor design choices in so many mods and modpacks. Bloated feature sets, design redundancies, terrible writing, immersion-breaking/low-quality features, nonsense recipes, etc. I decided I'd just make my own modpack and try to fix all that. Plus I just like making things myself.

Many months later, it's somewhat playable, so now I'm releasing it for testing and feedback. It may never get finished, but at least what I've started is usable.

NOTE: This modpack is currently in alpha. The mod/feature list isn't 100% final and may undergo additions, changes, and removals. I can't guarantee everything will work perfectly, since there are thousands of interdependent variables that would take years to fully test on my own. It should be decently playable, though. Future updates might cause world generation mismatches, missing blocks/items, etc.

Requires a minimum of 2.5 GB of RAM allocated to Java. It can run with less, but stuttering from constant memory clearing gets problematic if you get too far below 2.5 GB.

Feel free to submit any ideas, feedback, balance problems, mod suggestions, and anything else that might improve the modpack.

INSTALLATION

Twitch Launcher: Download the Twitch version of the modpack, open the Twitch launcher, navigate to the Minecraft modpacks page, click "Create Custom Profile", click "Import" in the screen that pops up, then find and select the Twitch version of Magitech Cosmos you just downloaded.

Standalone: If you haven't already, install Forge for 1.12.2. Download the Standalone version, create a new configuration in "Launch Options" in the Minecraft launcher (or whatever launcher you use), unzip the modpack's Standalone version that you just downloaded into the game's directory (default is .minecraft), then assign the unzipped folder as your new launcher profile's installation folder.

If you have persistent framerate problems even after the world loads, go to Video Options and set Mipmap Levels to OFF. Mipmapping is very performance-heavy, and can make modpacks chug due to the huge amount of textures being processed.
