Description
IMPORTANT CHANGE! DO NOT UPDATE WITHOUT READING THIS!
Thermal Expansion has been added to the modpack but with a twist! The "standard" gears used for TE machines (Tin Gear, Copper Gear, Lead Gear) cannot be crafted by hand. Those can only be made via a Tinkers Gear Cast or Immersive Engineering Metal Press: Gear.
Only a Platinum Gear can be crafted by hand.
Platinum Ore is found in the new Meteor Sites from Recurrent Complex.
Platinum Ore can only be smelted in a Tinkers Smeltry, an Immersive Engineering Arc Furnace, or a Thermal Expansion Redstone Furnace.
So the progression is:
- Using Immersive Engineering build an Arc Furnace and a Metal Press.
- Find Platinum Ore and smelt it into ingots via the Arc Furnace (or Tinker's Smeltry if you are sneaky).
- Use those ingots to make a Platinum Gear.
- Use that Platinum Gear to either make a Metal Press: Gear or a Tinkers Gear Cast.
- Use either the Press or the Cast to make the other gears.
- Progress into Thermal Expansion.
A Challenge Awaits
Crawfordville: The Lost Cities is a post-apocalypse Minecraft experience.
Decades ago it was a thriving world with vibrant cities, powerful industry, serene landscape and a hint of magic in the air. But then something happened...was it war? A meteor? Had industry been allowed to run amok? Had that background taste of magic in the air twisted the world into a nightmare?
No one knows what caused the disaster but it is clear that this world is not what it used to be.
Now we find massive ruined cities devoid of intelligent life. The land is pock-marked with craters and the water levels have risen. New (or are they old?) structures are strewn about the landscape; some are benign and some, in their darker depths, are full of danger and unknown treasures. Deadly monsters have occupied the land and begun to hoard machines and tools they do not understand. Magic flows like water and even some biomes have become corrupted with evil.
This is not the place for a casual adventurer.
You are here to explore, to learn, to thrive. Will you find a place in this world? Will you try to resurrect the lost knowledge? Attempt to master the arcane that perverts the landscape? Perhaps you will be able to start a new civilization here, here in a challenging hostile land.
I welcome you to try.
Overview
My previous modpacks were getting there but didn't quite hit the mark I was looking for. Then The Lost Cities (by Mcjty) was created and it was the perfect fit into my idea of the ideal Minecraft world. This modpack is built around experiencing the world, a challenging world, in that sandbox style that only Minecraft can provide.
If you are the exploring type you'll find amazing sights. If you are the fighting type you'll face serious foes. If you are the civilization type you'll find both magic and tech to suit your needs.
Environment
This is the 'core' of Crawfordville: The Lost Cites and the core of the core is the Lost Cities mod.
However it's not just tossed in alone! Recurrent Complex, Roguelike Dungeons, and Doomlike Dungeons add additional structures to the land. Dynamic Surroundings gives a deeper atmosphere and Hardcore Darkness makes nights even more terrifying.
Mobs
Ender Zoo adds some additional mobs but it's AtomicStyker's Infernal Mobs and Epic Siege Mod that make them truly challenging. You'll have to be careful around anything alive as even the sheep and cows can turn on you (or be demons in disguise). And when the Bloodmoon rises you'll be desperately fighting for your life.
Tech
Thankfully there are tools you can craft to help. Tinkers Construct is a requirement in any modpack I make but it is Immersive Engineering that you'll find the most useful. Iron Chests and Storage Drawers are present too but that's it for technology...this is a post-apocalypse world after all, what technology would remain after this sort of devastation?
Magic
But perhaps magic is more your style. This land doesn't have friendly magic...no it overflows with the darker arts like EvilCraft and AbyssalCraft. With the rise of nature comes the rise of Roots and Reliquary adds a bit more to your tool-belt.
Utility, Quality of Life and Fun
No modpack would be complete without some back-end mods to help things run smoothly and I have included several key ones. On the lighter side (well, depending on how lucky you are) Chance Cubes brings a bit of random crazy. And to pretty things up I've put in Chisel and DecoCraft2.
Summary
So be prepared for a breathtaking world overflowing with random structures and very challenging mobs. Your first focus must to be finding a safe place to stay. After that wander out, explore, and be prepared to survive!
