Other Changes:

OK, here is the deal.  I want to have Immersive Engineering (IE) be the "starter" tech and Thermal Expansion (TE) to be the "future" tech.  I want players to have to spend time using IE before getting to TE. So this is what has happened:

  • Only 1 gear can be crafted "manually" (crafting table)...a Platinum Gear.  It is made of 4 Platinum Ingots and 1 Iron Ingot. All other gears must be cast (via Tinkers Construct) or Pressed (via IE).
  • Platinum Ore only spawns in a new type of Recurrent Complex structure...a MeteorSitePlatinum.  They are fairly common (how often they spawn might be tweaked more).
  • Platinum Ore cannot be smelted in a vanilla furnace.  It can only be smelted into ingots via TE, IE or Tinkers Construct.

All of the Thermal Expansion machines require either a Machine Frame, a Device Frame, or an Energy Cell Frame.  Those frames require a gear (Tin Gear, Copper Gear, or Lead Gear respectively).  However none of those gears can be made by "hand", they have to either make them using the IE Press and a Metal Press: Gear or using a Tinkers Construct Gear cast. Both the Metal Press: Gear and Gear Cast require a gear...so how do you advance into TE?  With a Platinum Gear!

 

So the progression is:

  1. Using Immersive Engineering build an Arc Furnace and a Metal Press.
  2. Find Platinum Ore and smelt it into ingots via the Arc Furnace.
  3. Use those ingots to make a Platinum Gear.
  4. Use that Platinum Gear to either make a Metal Press: Gear or a Tinkers Gear Cast.
  5. Use either the Press or the Cast to make the other gears.
  6. Progress into Thermal Expansion.

NOTE: Once Mod Tweaker adds Tinkers Construct to 1.11.2 I will be (probably) removing the gear cast and (definitely) the ability to smelt Platinum from Tinkers.  Evil?  Yep!
