As mentioned in the summary, this pack is heavily staged. However, the stages do NOT unlock via in-game actions.
You need to unlock the stages manually whenever you see fit, the pack is based on roleplay and advancing through technologies.
The stages need to be unlocked in the following order, from top to bottom:

forging
embers
tinkers
two
twilight
roots
midnight
astralsorcery
betweenlands
thaumcraft
three
There is also an extra stage called "creative" that you can add for getting access to creative blocks and items.
To unlock a stage, type "/gamestage add @p <stagename>"
The pack is set in a medieval time and it's heavily focused on roleplay. If you don't like roleplay, this isn't the pack for you.
There are many custom recipes and cross mod integrations, so all major mods should be used on your journey through the stages.
