zSlender's Custom Tab & Chat
Tired of [VIP] ✦ ★ [Premium] Steve [Veteran] AFK taking over your screen? zSlender's Custom Tab & Chat cleans up player names, filters the chat noise and lets you decide what you see on screen.
Everything happens on your side only. It works on any server, needs nothing installed server-side, and doesn't change what anyone else sees.
Features
Tab
- Clean names: hide
[bracketed]prefixes and suffixes, plain-word ranks before or after the name, emojis, symbols and resource-pack icons. - Keep what you want: username only, keep the icon before the name, merge duplicates like
[VIP] [VIP]. - Formatting: remove colors from the name and from what's around it, and remove bold.
- Name color: original, the name's own color, the color of the rank before or after it (even if it's hidden), or any of the 16 Minecraft colors.
- Presets: Username Only, Username + Icon, Username + Suffix and Minimal Cleanup.
- Global or per-server rules.
- Connection: the usual bars, the ping in milliseconds (colored by quality), both, or nothing.
- Order: server order, friends first, or alphabetical.
- Hide player heads in the Tab.
- Hidden players: players who never appear in your Tab, even when online.
- Friends-only Tab: show only your highlighted players.
- Nametags: the names above players' heads have their own rules and name color, separate from the Tab.
Chat
- Clean names: choose what to hide around the name of whoever writes: username only, icons,
[prefixes],[suffixes], words before or after, and formatting.[Admin] ★ Alice » hican becomeAlice » hi. The message text is never changed. - Name color: automatic, the name's own color, the rank's color, none, or any of the 16 Minecraft colors.
- Message color: original, or any of the 16 Minecraft colors, so ranked and unranked players look the same.
- Message font: original, no bold, or plain (no bold, italic, underline, strikethrough or scrambled text).
- Player heads next to the name, on the left or on the right.
- Timestamps on every message, like
[14:32]. - Per-server chat options, like the Tab rules.
- Search chat: search the last 1000 messages of the session by text or by player, including hidden ones if you want.
Filters
- Hide join/leave, death and advancement messages, in any game language.
- Hide lobby joins: "X joined the lobby!" messages, including Hypixel's seasonal ones like "X spooked into the lobby!".
- Hide server messages: everything that isn't written by a player (announcements, tips, lobby messages...). Your own messages, whispers and messages that mention you are always shown.
- Hide repeated messages (the same message within a minute).
- Word filter: hide the whole message, or censor the word with
***. - Fix CAPS:
HELLO EVERYONEbecomesHello everyone. - Shorten repeats:
hellooooobecomeshelloo. Numbers are never shortened, so coordinates stay correct. - Fix CAPS and Shorten repeats never change your own messages.
- Links: show them, warn (not clickable, with the domain shown, to avoid scams), or hide messages with links.
Bots
- Hide messages from bots, Discord bridges and auto-announcements.
- Filter by message beginning (
[Discord],[Broadcast]...) or by player name. - Session counter: shows how many messages were hidden this session.
Players
- Highlight players: separate colors for each player's name and messages (the 16 Minecraft colors), shown in chat and in the Tab.
- Sound when they write: note, XP, dog, cat, parrot, pig, cow or sheep.
- Online / offline alerts: a chat message when a highlighted player joins or leaves, each with its own color and sound.
- Friends list: who is online now and when you last saw each friend (saved between sessions).
- Recent players: the last 100 players you've played with, to add them as friends, write a note or give them a name.
- Notes: write a note about any player ("owes me 10 diamonds"), shown in the friends list and recent players.
- Custom names: give any player a name of your own, and choose where it shows: Tab, chat and/or above their head. In chat, only their name changes, never the text of messages.
- Server nicknames: link a nickname (
/nick) to the real account, so everything else works with it too. - Mute players: their messages are hidden.
- Only show messages from: a list of players whose messages are the only ones you see in chat, private or not.
- Friends-only chat: only see messages from your friends (server announcements are still shown).
Mentions & Whispers
- Mentions: your name and any words you choose are highlighted in the color you pick, in bold or not, with a sound of your choice.
- Highlight whispers (
/msg) with their own color and sound. Works with the game's format in any language and with common plugin formats like EssentialsX. - Whispers-only chat: hide everything except private messages and your own.
- Mention history: the last 50 messages that mentioned you or whispered to you this session.
- Whisper history: sent and received whispers of the session, filterable by direction and by player, with optional timestamps.
- Flash the taskbar icon when you're mentioned, whispered to, or a friend joins or leaves while the game isn't in focus.
Anonymous Mode
- Anonymize the Tab, chat and/or nametags: every player gets the same name ("Anonymous" or "Player"). Useful for streaming or screenshots.
- Only names change: ranks, colors and skins stay as your other settings leave them. Hold Left Alt to see the real names for a moment.
Screen
- Hide the Tab header and footer, the boss bar, the scoreboard, titles and subtitles, and the action bar.
Profiles
- Save, load and delete named profiles with all your settings.
- Auto-load a profile when you join a specific server.
- Share settings: copy them to the clipboard, or export them as a file to your Downloads folder and import files a friend sends you.
Easy to configure
Press Esc and click zSlender's Custom Tab & Chat (above Disconnect), or find it in Options from the main menu. It's also in Mod Menu. Every screen uses Minecraft's own menu style, and every option has a tooltip.
- Six clear sections: Tab, Chat, Players, Mentions & Whispers, Screen and Profiles.
- Quick access: Tab & Chat Preview, Anonymous Mode, Search Chat, Guide and zSlender's Settings, right on the main menu.
- First-time guide: a short tour the first time you open the mod (Show me, Maybe later or Never show again), available any time from the main menu.
- Tab & Chat Preview: every player in the Tab and your last received messages, original and cleaned side by side. Outside a server it shows an example Tab and chat, so you can set everything up before joining.
- zSlender's Settings: one click for maximum simplification of everything.
- Reset to Vanilla: every section has its own reset button, plus Reset All.
Keys (changeable in Controls)
- Left Alt (hold): see the Tab and screen exactly as the server sends them.
- O (hold): see a Tab with only your friends.
- Open the settings: no key by default, so it won't clash with other mods. Assign one if you like.
Languages
English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.
Requirements
Client-side only. Do not install on servers.
Good to know
- Nicknames: players using a nickname are only recognized in chat if you add it in Server Nicknames.
- Boss bar: hiding it also hides real boss bars (Ender Dragon, Wither, raids). Turn it off for boss fights.
- Hide server messages: it's powerful, so use it with care. Server messages that don't mention you (like warnings or command replies) will be hidden too.
- Show Original key: it doesn't change messages already in the chat, because they're processed when they arrive.
- Chat Heads: if you use the Chat Heads mod, leave Player Heads off to avoid getting two heads.
- Memory only: chat search, the chat preview, and the mention and whisper histories are kept in memory only and are never saved to disk.
- Settings file:
config/customtabchat.json. Tab Cleanup settings are imported automatically on first launch.
