Description
Windblown
Bring your world to life with a breeze.
Windblown makes plants sway in the wind. Grass, flowers, crops, leaves, vines and kelp move in soft gusts that roll across the land, pick up when it rains and blow hard in a thunderstorm. Walk through tall grass or a wheat field and you hear it rustle around you.
No shader pack needed. Windblown works with plain vanilla rendering and with Sodium, and it is client-side only.
Features
Plants sway in the wind
- Grass, ferns, flowers, saplings and bushes bend and sway.
- Crops like wheat, carrots, potatoes and beetroots sway too, a little stiffer than grass.
- Tree leaves shiver and drift.
- Vines on walls, hanging roots, moss and vines that hang from ceilings sway from where they hang.
- Seagrass and kelp drift slowly in the current underwater.
- Tall stacks like kelp, sugar cane and vines bend more toward the top, the way a real plant would.
Gusts that sweep across the land
- The wind comes in waves, so you can watch a gust roll across a meadow instead of every plant moving the same way at once.
- Plants out in the open move the most. Plants in caves and under roofs stay calm.
Weather
- Rain makes the wind pick up.
- Thunderstorms blow even harder.
- You can turn this off if you want the same gentle breeze all the time.
Rustling
- Grass, crops and leaves rustle softly when you walk through them.
- Other players and mobs make them rustle too, so you can hear something moving through the grass.
- The sounds are quiet, and you can turn them down or off.
Modded plants
Windblown recognizes plants by how they are built, so most plants, crops and leaves from other mods sway without any setup. Tested with Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored, Oh The Biomes We've Gone and Farmer's Delight.

Compatibility
- Sodium and Embeddium: fully supported. Plants sway the same as in vanilla. On 1.20.2 with Sodium, plants don't sway (rustling still works), because that Sodium version draws the world differently.
- Iris: supported. While a shader pack is on, the pack draws the plants, so Windblown's sway steps aside (most shader packs have their own waving plants). Rustling keeps working. Turn the shader pack off and the sway comes back.
- Resource packs: work as normal. The plants keep their textures and models.

FAQ
Do I need a shader pack? No. That's the point of Windblown: waving plants without a shader pack, so you keep your performance and the vanilla look.
Does it work on servers? Yes. Windblown is client-side only. Install it on your own game and join any server. The server doesn't need it, and other players don't need it either.
Performance? The swaying is done on your graphics card while the world is drawn, so it costs next to nothing. Windblown doesn't add any blocks, entities or extra chunk rebuilds while you play.
Do plants actually move, or is it just visual? It's only visual. Hitboxes, collisions and farms all work exactly like in vanilla.
Why do plants not sway when I use a shader pack? Shader packs replace how the world is drawn, so they decide how plants look. Most packs have their own waving plants you can turn on in the pack's settings.
The rustling is too loud / too quiet. Change Rustle Volume in the settings, or turn Rustling off. Your own footsteps follow Minecraft's Players volume slider, and other players and mobs follow Friendly Creatures.
Can I use it in my modpack? Yes, of course!
