Vertical slab and beyond

Build finer details: vertical slabs, two different slabs per block, four independently rotated decorations per block, terracotta slabs

Vertical Slabs & Beyond

Your builds, in finer detail.
Have you ever wanted a wall that is half stone and half oak? A slab standing upright against a pillar? Four little poppies growing in one block instead of one lonely flower? Vertical Slabs & Beyond turns every block into more building space. There is no menu to learn and no new tool: just sneak, click, and build what you had in mind.

Slabs that stand up

Sneak + right-click the side of a block, and your slab stands upright against it.

Aim near the edge of the face and the slab turns 90°. Aim at the top of a block and it goes to the side closest to your cursor. North, south, east, west: every angle is one click away.

It works with every vanilla slab, from oak to copper to concrete. It also works with most slabs from other mods. Your slabs keep their texture, hardness and required tool. They block light correctly and can hold water.

Thin walls, window frames, railings, pillars, detailed facades: things you couldn't build before.

Two slabs, one block

Put a stone slab on top of an oak slab. Put red terracotta next to black terracotta. Put quartz next to copper. Any two slabs can share the same block: top and bottom, or side by side.

Changed your mind? Sneak + left-click the half you are aiming at: it comes straight back to your inventory, and the other half stays exactly where it is. A plain left click still breaks the whole block. Two identical slabs still merge into the normal vanilla double slab.

Striped floors, two-tone walls, trims and borders, all without wasting a single block.

Four decorations, one block

Sneak + right-click with a flower, and it takes just one quarter of the block, the one under your cursor. Then fill the other three quarters.

  • Four poppies in a tiny flower bed
  • A dandelion, a blue orchid, a mushroom and a sapling
  • Four candles in four different colours, which vanilla never allows in one block
  • Four carpets for a checkerboard rug
  • Four end rods pointing in four different directions

Over 130 blocks can go in a quarter: every small flower, sapling and mushroom, all the flower pots, the 16 wool carpets and moss carpets, the 17 candles, torches, lanterns (including copper ones), amethyst buds and clusters, nether fungi and roots.

Every decoration has its own orientation, and nothing overlaps. They behave the way you expect: flowers need soil, candles light up with flint and steel and blow out with an empty hand, lanterns hang from the ceiling when you click the underside of a block, amethyst sticks to the face you clicked, and end rods always lean on a real block instead of floating in mid-air. If the ground below disappears, only the flowers pop off. Sneak + left-click takes back a single decoration, leaving the other three in place.

Real gardens, cosy details, fairy lights: the small touches that make a build feel alive.

101 new blocks: terracotta and concrete variants

Minecraft never gave terracotta its slabs and stairs, and never gave concrete its walls. This mod fills both gaps, for plain terracotta, all 16 terracotta colours and all 16 concrete colours:

  • Terracotta: slabs, stairs, walls, buttons and pressure plates
  • Concrete: walls (vanilla already has the slabs and stairs on 26.3)

They use the real vanilla textures, so they work with your resource packs, and they keep the hardness, sounds and required tool of the original block. Every recipe shows up in the recipe book

Warm desert palettes, mesa builds, colourful roofs: your whole palette is now ready for detailing.

Small comforts

  • Precise outline: only the half or the decoration you aim at is highlighted.
  • Smart Pick Block: middle-click gives you exactly that slab or flower.
  • Placement preview: a subtle frame shows where things will go, and turns red if they don't fit.
  • Advancements: a short tab guides you through the three mechanics.
  • Made for multiplayer: the server checks every action, items can't be duplicated, and everything stays in sync between players.
  • Configurable: sneak requirements, slab mixing, water, single-part removal and the preview can each be turned on or off.
