The End That Was Promised

Step through the portal into a living End, not a boss room.
In vanilla, the End is a boss room and some cities. In The End That Was Promised, an End portal sets you down in the outer End, far from the dragon, at a ruin the Ancients left. They built the End Cities and left the dimension half finished. Cross thirteen new biomes, ride updrafts and void currents, meet the constructs that still keep their ruins, break the three seals their guardians hold, and only then face the dragon. Each kill makes the next one angrier.
Requirements
The End That Was Promised runs on NeoForge and Fabric and plays the same on both. Download the jar for your loader.
- Minecraft 26.3 and Java 25
- NeoForge: NeoForge 26.3.0.97 or newer, GeckoLib 5.5.7 or a later 5.5.x (required) and
promisedend-<version>-neoforge.jar. - Fabric: Fabric Loader 0.20.1 or newer, Fabric API 0.165.0+26.3 or newer (required), GeckoLib 5.5.7 or a
later 5.5.x (required) and
promisedend-<version>-fabric.jar. - Install it on the client, and on the server too when you play on one.
- The new lands generate in End chunks made after it is installed. An End you have already explored keeps what it has.
How it plays
- Arrive. An End portal sets you down in the outer End, 1,100 to 2,500 blocks out in the portal's direction, at an Ancient Waystation with a Return Gate home.
- Read the Promise Codex. Every traveller arrives with it. It keeps the goals of five acts and opens the next act when the last one's work is done.
- Make a Void Anchor from Voidstone off the Shattered Rim. Fall into the void with one and it pulls you back.
- Roam the outer lands. Ride Drift Islets and updrafts, wake the Rift Gates, and trade at the Void Shrines for boons.
- Break the three seals. The Hollow Sentinel in its Shulker Foundry, the Void Leviathan in its Rift Maw, the Architect in the Unfinished Citadel. Each one's Star Chart leads to the next.
- Face the dragon. The Ancients' Ward keeps everyone from it until the third seal breaks. It is stronger than vanilla's, it has a third phase, and every kill raises the world's Wrath.
The arrival

- You land on the nearest island top within 256 blocks of your spot. With none, an end-stone islet is made there.
- An Ancient Waystation is built where you land. A portal within 96 blocks of one used before brings you to the same Waystation.
- Stand in its Return Gate for 2 seconds to go back to your respawn point.
- Your first arrival brings a kit of your own: the Promise Codex, a Star Chart sealed on the Shulker Foundry, a Mire Lily and a Resonite Shard to wake the Rift Gate on the Waystation's edge, and three Ancient Tablets.
The Ancients' Ward
A wall 640 blocks round the End's centre keeps everyone from the main island and the dragon. Walk at it and you are set back outside; ender pearls thrown at it bounce off. While it stands, the dragon doesn't wake. Three seals bind it, and a seal breaks for the whole world when its guardian falls.
Hold an Ender Pearl more than 160 blocks from the centre and its sparks drift the way you need to go: to the next seal's ruin while the Ward stands, then to the heart of the End.
Thirteen new lands

The main island stays as it was. Round it lies the Shattered Rim, broken Voidstone islands from 150 to 1,024 blocks out. Past it, eleven outer lands, each with something only it has:
| Land | What grows there |
|---|---|
| Chorus Thicket | Chorus grown into trees |
| Chorus Canopy | Chorus trees with leaves, sprouts and climbing vines |
| Lumen Mire | Lumen, by pools that slow you |
| Resonant Spires | Resonite |
| Skyfall Archipelago | Drift Blossoms on islets linked by updrafts |
| Bloom Meadows | Ender Blooms and Starflowers, each a dye |
| Void Fungus Barrens | Huge Void Mushrooms, for a stew that slows your fall |
| Hanging Gardens | Void Berries glowing on vines under the islets |
| Voidscar Wastes | Voidsteel Scrap in the rift walls |
| Shulker Reefs | Ancient Purpur as coral, kept by wild shulkers |
| Hollow Highlands | Echo Amber in the caverns under the islands |
At the far edge, from about 8,000 blocks out, lies the Unfinished Edge: scaffolding and raw lattice where the Ancients' work simply stopped. Vanilla's End Cities stay, and appear in the new highland and midland lands too.
The Ancients' ruins
| Ruin | Where | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Waystation | where you arrive | a Return Gate, a dormant Rift Gate and a shared chest |
| Void Shrine | every outer land and vanilla's outer biomes | a Shrine Altar, a dormant Rift Gate and two Purpur Sentries |
| Fallen Observatory | Hollow Highlands, Resonant Spires, End Highlands | a Star Chart Desk, Sentries and a chest |
| Shulker Foundry | Shulker Reefs, End Midlands | the Hollow Sentinel and the first seal |
| Rift Maw | Voidscar Wastes, End Barrens | the Void Leviathan and the second seal, over a pool open to the void |
| Unfinished Citadel | the Unfinished Edge, 7,400 or more blocks out | the Architect and the last seal, behind the Amber Gate |
| Rim Outpost | the Shattered Rim, 170 to 430 blocks out | Ancient Tablets and loot, inside the Ward |
The void is part of the world

- Void Anchor: fall into the void with one in your inventory and, 24 blocks below the dimension's lowest block, it pulls you back to your last safe footing, gives you 5 seconds of Slow Falling, and cracks. Recharge a cracked one with an ender pearl or Rift Dust.
- Drift Islets: small islands that shuttle between two moorings 12 to 96 blocks apart, at 3 blocks a second. Stand on one and it carries you.
- Updrafts: vents on island edges in the Skyfall Archipelago and the Voidscar Wastes push a column of air 32 blocks up; one you craft reaches 16. Sneak to sink. Gliding with an elytra, the column is twice as wide and lifts harder.
- Void currents: unseen rivers under those same islands, marked by lit motes. Fall into one and it carries you at 8 blocks a second for up to 20 seconds, then washes you ashore within 32 blocks. Glide along one for 30% more speed.
- Rift Gates: attune one with a Mire Lily and a Resonite Shard and it joins your network of up to 32 gates. Jumps cost nothing; you wait 30 seconds between them.
Void Shrines
Lay offerings on a Shrine Altar. At 3 favour it offers three of its six boons, and you take one. Each altar gives you a boon once every 20 minutes, so visit several.
| Boon | Does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Gliding Grace | An elytra wears half as fast | 10 minutes |
| Pearl Sense | Ender Pearls recharge twice as fast | 10 minutes |
| Void Sight | Vents and the Ancients' ruins outlined | 5 minutes |
| Rift Step | Your next void fall is caught | until it catches a fall |
| Resonant Edge | A tenth more melee damage | 10 minutes |
| Shulker Ward | Levitation can't take hold of you | 10 minutes |
The constructs

The Ancients' work still moves out there. Each construct has one rule, and the Codex writes it in when you first meet one.
- Chorus Weaver (Chorus Thicket): hides as a chorus plant until you come within 6 blocks, then lashes a vine that slows you and pulls you in.
- Rift Stalker (Voidscar Wastes): every 6 seconds it blinks in behind you and strikes. Look straight at it and it freezes where it stands.
- Purpur Sentry (guarding the ruins): its shield turns every blow from the front for 3 seconds, then it lunges. Strike from the side or behind.
- Lumen Wisp (Lumen Mire): hold Lumen near one and it follows at your shoulder, lighting the way. It never fights.
- Lattice Crawler (Unfinished Edge): tears out the lattice block under you. It grows back 8 seconds later.
- Crystal Warden (the dragon's third phase): locks on, then beams at you, and the dragon heals while it does. Put a pillar between you.
The three guardians

| Guardian | Health | How to beat it |
|---|---|---|
| Hollow Sentinel | 600 | Strike its Resonant Bullets back. Three crack its shell and it takes ×1.5 damage while open. At two thirds and one third it calls two Purpur Sentries. |
| Void Leviathan | 850 | A ring marks where it will breach. Strike it from the pool's lip while it rears; under the surface it takes only 20% of a blow. |
| The Architect | 1,000 | Bound until you open its Amber Gate. It raises Phantom Lattice walls, throws Raw Lattice and unmakes the floor. Strike as it throws, at the lit keystone for ×1.45. |
What a guardian leaves for its fighters is kept for anyone dead or away when it falls: the Sentinel gives an Ancient Core and the Rift Maw's Star Chart, the Leviathan the Leviathan Fin and the Citadel's chart, the Architect the Architect's Promise and the Architect's Lattice.
The dragon and its Wrath

Fought last, the dragon has 450 health at first. Below 25% it calls Crystal Wardens to its tallest pillars and, every 20 seconds, marks a player with a closing ring, dives there and leaves a cloud of void breath.
Respawn it with crystals as in vanilla. Each kill raises the world's Dragon Wrath by one, up to 5: the next dragon has more health and calls more Wardens, and the hoard it leaves in a chest by the exit portal is richer.
| Wrath | Health | Wardens | Hoard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 450 | 3 | 3 Dragon Scale |
| 1 | 562.5 | 3 | 4 Dragon Scale, Starmetal |
| 2 | 675 | 3 | 5 Dragon Scale, 2 Starmetal |
| 3 | 787.5 | 4 | 6 Dragon Scale, 3 Starmetal, a 20% chance each of a Leviathan Fin and an Architect's Lattice |
| 4 | 900 | 4 | 7 Dragon Scale, 4 Starmetal, the same chances |
| 5 | 1012.5 | 5 | 8 Dragon Scale, 5 Starmetal, a 50% chance each, and the Wrathful Crown |
A Dragon Scale repairs half an elytra in an anvil.
Starfall
Once the Rift Maw's seal is broken, stars fall on the outer End while a player is more than 1,000 blocks out: about one every 40 minutes, at most 2 a Minecraft day. A beam marks the spot for 30 seconds. The crater holds 3 to 6 Starmetal Ore and a Starfall Core, and never lands within 8 blocks of anything built. A Star Compass points to a falling star.
Gear
| Tier | Durability | Mining speed | Sword damage | Armour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voidstone | 190 | 5.5 | 5.5 | none |
| Resonite | 1,700 | 8.5 | 7 | 3/8/6/3, toughness 2 |
| Voidsteel | 2,100 | 9 | 8 | 3/8/6/3, toughness 3 |
- Resonite is crafted from ingots, or smithed from diamond gear with the Hollow Sentinel's template. Voidsteel is smithed from Resonite gear with the Void Leviathan's template.
- Resonance (all four Resonite pieces): every 4th melee hit on one foe rings for +2 damage and a second of Slowness II.
- Void-touched (all four Voidsteel pieces): in the void it holds the void's damage off you for 10 seconds each fall, and updrafts lift you half again as fast.
- Elytra augments, smithed on with Echo Amber: Drift Weave (wears 40% slower), Leviathan Fin (updrafts lift 50% more, currents carry you twice as hard) and Architect's Lattice (jump while gliding for a rocket's boost, every 30 seconds). The elytra stays vanilla's elytra, so enchantments and other mods keep working with it.

Modpacks and other mods

- Another End biome mod: set
terrain.enabledto false. The new biomes stay out and the rest still works: the Rim's islands and outposts and the guardians' ruins come to the End biomes that are there instead. - Every new biome is in
#minecraft:is_endand#c:is_end, so other mods' End spawns reach them. - Packs can change the Shrine offerings (
#promisedend:offerings/favour_1tofavour_5), what the augments go on (#promisedend:augmentable_elytra) and where each ruin stands (#promisedend:has_structure/<ruin>). - The new gear is made of plain tool and armour items.
