Spells and Spellcrafting 2.12.40 — release notes
What's new
- Call Horde and Dismiss Horde are now two separate cantrips — a green Call and a red Dismiss — instead of one toggle. No more accidentally releasing your stored army when you meant to stash the one around you.
- Casting the wrong horde cantrip is free. Call with nothing in stasis, or Dismiss with no army out, simply fizzles — no reagents, no cooldown. Only a cast that actually does something starts the ~10-second cooldown.
- The Devourer can be taught a mining enchant. Right-click it with an Efficiency, Silk Touch, or Fortune book. Efficiency makes it dig faster; Silk Touch and Fortune shape what it drops on every task — Chaos included.
- Chaos mode now hands you the loot. Everything a Chaos rampage eats goes straight into your inventory (overflow drops at your feet) instead of being buried in the cavities it chews out.
- You can see what the Devourer holds. Its nameplate shows its rank and enchant live (e.g.
[Diamond, Fortune III]), and an empty-handed right-click gives you a full status readout — rank, enchant, and what it's doing right now.
Details & balance
- The Devourer holds one enchant at a time. Feeding a different type replaces the current one (the book is absorbed, no refund); same type only upgrades — a lower or equal book is rejected and kept.
- It only accepts pure single-enchant books — a combo book (say Efficiency + Unbreaking) or any other enchantment is rejected and kept, so it can never eat a multi-enchant treasure book by mistake.
- The Devourer's rank and enchant both survive recall into the Phylactery, and every feed result (absorbed, replaced, rejected) is announced in chat.
- Spell count is now 57 (Call Horde and Dismiss Horde are counted separately).
Requires / compatible with
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.224+
- Existing worlds upgrade cleanly — a Devourer already carrying an enchant keeps it and gains the new nameplate badge. No config reset needed.
