What is this?

Spartan Shields adds a proper shield progression to vanilla Minecraft. Spartan Shield Backport is a community-made port that brings the classic shields of the original Forge mod (v3.1.1 for Minecraft 1.20.1) to modern Minecraft versions and mod loaders — currently Fabric 1.21.1 and NeoForge 26.2 — with the original textures, models, recipes and stats.

How this project differs from the original

This project is not the original mod and is not developed by ObliviousSpartan. It is an unofficial, from-scratch port:

• New code: All Java code was newly written for the target mod loader and Minecraft version, because the original Forge 1.20.1 code cannot run there. The ported content (textures, models, shield stats, recipe patterns) is taken 1:1 from the original.
• Content scope: Only the vanilla-material shields are included — 8 basic shields and 8 tower shields (Wooden, Stone, Copper, Iron, Golden, Diamond, Netherite, Obsidian). The original's integration shields for modded materials are not part of this port.
• No config file: The original's config options are not available in this port.
• Modern vanilla behavior: Where modern Minecraft changed mechanics (e.g. recipes, shield blocking), the port follows the behavior of the Minecraft version it targets.

Features

• 8 basic shields — Wooden, Stone, Copper, Iron, Golden, Diamond, Netherite and Obsidian
• 8 tower shields — same materials, rendered as full 3D models (round, kite and tower shapes, just like the original)
• Shield progression — craft the wooden shield, then upgrade it step by step; Netherite upgrades at the smithing table
• Banner decoration — apply any banner's patterns to tower shields
• Original content — textures, shield geometries, recipe patterns and creative tab placement taken 1:1 from the original mod
• Repairable — every shield repairs with its material at the anvil

Crafting

• Wooden shields: planks + stick (basic and tower variant)
• All upgrades: material around the wooden shield (compatible with modded materials via tags where available)
• Netherite: diamond shield + netherite ingot + smithing template

Requirements

Available for: Fabric 1.21.1 and NeoForge 26.2

• Fabric: Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric Loader 0.16+, Fabric API, Java 21
• NeoForge: Minecraft 26.2, NeoForge 26.2, Java 25
