Soundboard
A client-side hotkey soundboard for Minecraft on Fabric and NeoForge.
Load your MP3s, bind a key to each one, and trigger memes, horn blasts, music and other clips while you play. Every sound plays on your own PC first, and can additionally be sent to players near you and/or fed straight into Simple Voice Chat so your entire voice group hears it.
The voice chat channel works without a server-side installation of this mod — everything happens on your client.
Features
- Small in-game GUI, opened with K (configurable)
- Add MP3s via a file dialog, by path, or open the sounds folder directly
- Any key can be bound to any sound — no Vanilla controls-entry edits needed
- Per-sound volume (0.0 – 2.0)
- Multiple sounds can overlap; a new sound cuts off the one already playing (if configured that way)
- Two independent, separately switchable output channels:
- Nearby — send sounds to players within a radius (default 48 blocks)
- Voice chat — mix sounds into your Simple Voice Chat group
- A status line in the GUI always shows where a sound will be heard: "Heard on: this PC + …"
- Stop all sounds button (plus an optional hotkey)
- Automatic fallback to a virtual audio cable if Simple Voice Chat cannot send
- Works entirely client-side; only the nearby-player relay needs the mod on the server
Two independent channels
A triggered sound always plays on your PC. On top of that, the two channels can be combined freely:
| Nearby | Voice chat | Who hears it |
|---|---|---|
| off | off | only you (your speakers) |
| on | off | you + players within the radius |
| off | on | you + your Simple Voice Chat group |
| on | on | you + nearby players + your voice chat group |
If a player is both nearby and in your voice chat group, they will hear the sound twice — turn Nearby off in that case.
Voice chat channel
Sounds are injected into Simple Voice Chat's outgoing microphone stream through its official plugin API (MergeClientSoundEvent / mergeAudio), exactly as if you were speaking. The whole group hears them, no push-to-talk required, and no virtual audio cable is needed.
- Simple Voice Chat is a hard dependency — the mod will not start without it
- Frame format: 960 shorts = 48 kHz mono = 20 ms, matching what Simple Voice Chat expects
- The hook is installed through the supported plugin API (Fabric
voicechatentrypoint, NeoForge@ForgeVoicechatPlugin), not through reflection - Toggle it with V in-game or with the Voice chat: ON/OFF button in the GUI
Fallback: if Simple Voice Chat cannot open a microphone, the mod detects this and routes the clip through the output device selected in the GUI (Device: …) instead, so you can use VB-CABLE/VoiceMeeter as an input.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.11
- Fabric: Fabric Loader (0.19+) + Fabric API
- NeoForge: NeoForge 21.11+
- Simple Voice Chat 2.6.x or newer (required dependency)
- Java 21 or newer
Installation
Fabric
- Install Fabric Loader, Fabric API and Simple Voice Chat for Minecraft.
- Drop the mod jar into your
modsfolder. - Done — the client-side part works immediately.
NeoForge
- Install NeoForge 21.11.x and Simple Voice Chat.
- Drop the mod jar into your
modsfolder. - Done.
Server-side (optional): only the nearby players channel needs this mod on the server as well — just drop the jar into the server's
modsfolder. Your sound files always stay on your own client; the server only forwards sound IDs, and players without the mod hear nothing. The Simple Voice Chat channel never needs the server mod.
Usage
- Press K to open the soundboard.
- Click Add MP3… and pick a file (it is copied to
config/soundboard/sounds/). - Click a sound in the list → Change key… → press the key you want.

Configuration
config/soundboard/config.json:
{
"broadcastRadius": 48,
"broadcastEnabled": true,
"openGuiKey": 75,
"stopAllKey": -1,
"voiceToggleKey": 86,
"voiceChatEnabled": false,
"voiceDevice": "<system default>",
"sounds": [
{ "id": "...", "name": "My sound", "fileName": "my_sound.mp3", "keyCode": 33, "volume": 1.0 }
]
}
GLFW key codes: e.g. 65 = A, 75 = K, 340 = F1, 256 = ESC, 49 = 1. Values are written automatically when you bind a key; manual editing is optional.
Technical notes
- MP3 decoding via the pure-Java JLayer library, bundled inside the mod jar. Only
.mp3is supported. - Playback through
javax.sound.sampled. The mod's volume is independent of the in-game sound volume. - Device selection works around Minecraft's reduced
javax.sound.sampledimplementation; if the device format differs from the MP3 (e.g. 48 kHz stereo), channel count and sample rate are converted. - Hotkeys are polled straight from the GLFW keyboard state, so any key works and keys pressed in chat or menus do not trigger sounds.
