Turn Minecraft Loot Into RPG Progression

Sol's Item Rarity adds a persistent, per-item rarity system inspired by RPG loot and gear progression.

Two copies of the same item can roll different rarities, giving players a reason to inspect new equipment, hunt for upgrades, and keep especially powerful or visually rare finds.

  • Seven rarity tiers from Common to Supreme
  • Random rarity rolls for equipment
  • Weapon and armor stat bonuses
  • Dedicated utility perks for tools
  • Fixed rarity for rare materials, boss drops, and collectibles
  • Animated item names, borders, glow, and chroma effects
  • Support for vanilla and modded items
  • Server-to-client configuration synchronization

Seven Rarity Tiers

Rarity Default multiplier Identity
Common 1.0x Standard item
Uncommon 1.15x Early upgrade
Rare 1.25x Improved equipment
Epic 1.5x Powerful find
Legendary 2.0x Exceptional gear
Mythical 3.0x Extremely rare item
Supreme 5.0x Highest rarity

Rarity chances and multipliers are configurable. Item material also affects the default rarity pool, so high-end equipment can access rarities that basic equipment normally cannot.

RPG Weapon And Armor Bonuses

Weapons and armor receive bonuses suited to their equipment type.

  • Swords and recognized weapons can gain Attack Damage and Attack Speed
  • Armor can gain Armor, Toughness, and Max Health
  • Boots can gain Movement Speed
  • Shields can gain Knockback Resistance
  • Higher rarity increases the strength of applicable bonuses
  • Vanilla enchantments such as Sharpness, Protection, and Power retain their normal purpose

Supported modded weapons and armor can be detected automatically or configured manually.

Utility Tool Perks

Pickaxes, normal axes, shovels, and hoes use their own utility perk system instead of receiving inappropriate weapon damage bonuses.

Utility tools can roll multiple perks with tiers from I to V. Higher item rarity improves perk count and the chance of stronger perk tiers. Supreme items guarantee Tier V perks.

Shared Tool Perks

Break Efficiency
Increases block-breaking speed and stacks with Minecraft's Efficiency enchantment.

Durability Guard
Each time the tool would lose durability, this perk has a chance to prevent that durability loss. It works together with Unbreaking and Mending.

Pickaxe Perk: Vein Miner

Sneak while mining to break additional connected matching blocks that the pickaxe can correctly harvest, including stone, deepslate, ores, and compatible modded blocks.

Axe Perk: Timber

Sneak while chopping to break additional connected matching axe-effective blocks, including logs and compatible modded blocks.

Shovel Perk: Excavation

Sneak while digging to break additional connected matching shovel-effective blocks, including dirt, sand, gravel, clay, snow, and compatible modded blocks.

Hoe Perks

Harvest Replant
Harvests mature crops and replants them at age zero. Sneak-harvesting can affect additional nearby mature crops of the same type.

Bountiful Harvest
Gives mature crops a tier-based chance to drop bonus produce.

All connected block-breaking perks use normal Minecraft breaking behavior, including durability use, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, drops, permissions, and tool harvest requirements.

Compatibility With Excavation Mods

Players or server owners using another vein-mining, ore-excavation, tree-felling, or area-digging mod can disable ItemRarity's connected block-breaking perks.

In solsitemrarity-common.toml:

[general]
disableConnectedToolPerks = false

Set this to true to disable only:

  • Vein Miner
  • Timber
  • Excavation

Break Efficiency, Durability Guard, and hoe perks remain enabled.

Fixed Rarity For Materials And Collectibles

Not every rarity represents combat power.

Rare materials, boss drops, structure loot, special components, and collectibles can receive fixed rarity based on their obtainability or importance.

Fixed-rarity items receive the appropriate rarity name and visuals without automatically receiving equipment stats.

This allows the system to represent both:

  • Power rarity for equipment progression
  • Value rarity for difficult-to-obtain items

Built-in vanilla rarities can be extended or overridden through configuration.

Visual Rarity Effects

Make valuable items immediately recognizable.

  • Rarity-colored item names
  • Animated chroma text
  • Inventory and hotbar slot borders
  • Tooltip borders matching item rarity
  • Glow, sparkle, pulse, and traveling-light effects
  • Simpler static rendering modes for improved performance

Visual effects can be configured or disabled independently.

Persistent Per-Item Rolls

Rarity and utility perks are stored directly on each item.

  • Two identical items can have different rarity rolls
  • Rarity survives inventory movement, storage, death, and multiplayer use
  • Perks are rolled during item assignment, never by hovering over a tooltip
  • Existing eligible items missing current perk data are migrated automatically

Modded Item And SetID Support

Sol's Item Rarity supports custom content through item IDs and SetID data.

Server owners and modpack creators can configure:

  • Modded weapons, armor, tools, and items
  • Custom rarity pools
  • Fixed rarities
  • Custom attributes
  • Utility perk weights and values
  • Boss rewards and unique equipment sets

Item IDs use the standard modid:item_name format.

Multiplayer And Server Support

  • Server rarity configuration synchronizes to connected players
  • Utility perk values and compatibility settings are synchronized
  • Item rarity and perk data persist on the item
  • /sr reload reloads JSON configurations without restarting the server
  • Designed for modpacks, dedicated servers, and single-player worlds

Configuration

Configuration is located in:

.minecraft/config/solsitemrarity/

Important files include:

  • solsitemrarity-common.toml - general settings and compatibility options
  • rarity_chances.json - random rarity pools
  • custom_rarities.json - fixed rarity overrides
  • rarity_attributes.json - custom item bonuses
  • utility_buffs.json - utility perk pools, tier odds, and perk values

The full command name /solsrarity is also available.

Sol's Relic System Integration

Sol's Relic System expands combat equipment with leveling, main stats, sub-stats, critical-hit mechanics, rerolling, and set bonuses.

When both mods are installed:

  • Relic stats remain focused on weapons and armor
  • Utility tools keep ItemRarity utility perks
  • Overlapping weapon and armor rarity stats are disabled by default
  • Old relic data on utility tools is ignored and cleaned up

Sol's Relic System is optional. Sol's Item Rarity works independently.

Installation

  1. Install the correct Forge or NeoForge version for your Minecraft version.
  2. Download the matching Sol's Item Rarity .jar.
  3. Place the file in your Minecraft mods folder.
  4. Launch the game.

The internal mod ID and JAR naming remain itemrarity / sols_itemrarity, even if the CurseForge project title is expanded.

Why Use Sol's Item Rarity?

This mod is designed for players and modpacks looking for:

  • Minecraft RPG loot

  • Weapon and armor stat bonuses
  • Tool perks and utility upgrades
