Smiley's Better Visuals

👁️ Give Verity a more accurate model.

A lightweight add-on for Verity JE that replaces the default sphere look with a tuned helper model — better proportions, cleaner drops, natural look-at, and speech-driven squash & stretch. Verity still thinks the same way. This mod just changes how he looks.

✨ What You Get

• 🔮 Helper sphere model — held, dropped, placed, and in-world Verity all use the same improved look
• 👀 Smart look-at — thrown Verity starts facing the throw direction, then turns toward the nearest player; keybind-placed Verity snaps to face you instantly
• 🗣️ Speech deform — springy squash & stretch while Verity talks (syncs to real audio when Smiley's Better Voice is installed)
• 😶 Expression faces — helper face textures mapped to Verity JE mood variants
• 🌑 No ground blob — entity and dropped-item shadows removed for a cleaner Verity silhouette
• 🌐 Multiplayer-ready — server-side placement mixins + client-side rendering; install on server and every client that should see the model

✅ Before You Start

Make sure you already have:

⚠️ Heads up — this mod doesn't replace Verity JE, it works alongside it. You need both installed.

🚀 Quick Start

1. Drop Verity JE and Smiley's Better Visuals into your mods folder and launch Minecraft
2. In-game: Mods → Smiley's Better Visuals → Config
3. Leave Enable Smiley's Better Visuals on (default)
4. Throw or place Verity — he should use the helper model, look at you, and deform when speaking
5. (Optional) Install Smiley's Better Voice on each client for amplitude-synced speech animation

⚙️ Config Options

Found under Mods → Smiley's Better Visuals → Config:

Saved to config/verity_visuals.toml.

Hand positioning, GUI offsets, speech timing, and face-variant defaults are tuned in-mod — no clutter in the config screen.

🌐 Multiplayer & Dedicated Servers

• Install Smiley's Better Visuals on the server and on every client that should see the improved model
• Verity JE 5.7.3+ is required on both sides
• Drop placement and block-place behaviour run on the server; look-at, faces, and speech deform render per client
• On a dedicated server, the server copy of config/verity_visuals.toml controls shared placement behaviour

🎭 How Look-At Works

• Thrown / dropped — Verity spawns facing the throw direction, then smoothly turns toward the nearest player within range
• Keybind block-place — Verity faces you immediately (no slow turn-in)
• Look Follow Speed in config controls how quickly thrown Verity catches up to you

🗣️ How Speech Deform Works

• Without Better Voice — a gentle pulse while Verity is visually talking
• With Smiley's Better Voice — deform follows real TTS audio amplitude for a more natural “talking ball” effect
• Tune feel with Stretch Multiplier and Spring Stiffness

🛠️ Troubleshooting

🔴 Still looks like vanilla Verity — Confirm the mod is enabled in config, Verity JE is 5.7.3+, and you restarted after installing. On multiplayer, the mod must be on the server and your client.

🟠 No speech squash/stretch — Install Smiley's Better Voice on your client for amplitude sync, or check that Verity is actually in a talking state.

🟡 Other players see the old model — They need Smiley's Better Visuals in their own mods folder; rendering is client-side.

🟢 Config changes on a server — Edit config/verity_visuals.toml on the dedicated server and restart, or adjust in singleplayer and copy the file.
