Description

Skyblock Expeditions

Skyblock Expeditions adds disposable, Overworld-style exploration sectors to a permanent Skyblock world.

Build and automate at home. Open a physical Expedition portal when you want terrain, structures, archaeology, and discovery. Return with legitimate exploration rewards under server-controlled rules, then intentionally cycle the sector when your group is ready for a new destination.

Skyblock builds. Expeditions explore. Villagers refine. Progression stays earned.

Recommended Companion: Skyblock Trading Rework

Skyblock Expeditions was designed alongside and with [Skyblock Trading Rework] in mind. This companion datapack expands villager trading to support balanced, long-term progression in Skyblock worlds.

The two projects are designed to complement each other: Expeditions provide renewable exploration and carefully controlled resources, while Skyblock Trading Rework gives those resources a structured role in the villager economy. This relationship is reflected in Skyblock Expeditions’ dedicated SBTR Return Preset, which protects the SBTR economy through tailored Allowed/Restricted rules, limited-return quotas, and minimum-haul thresholds.

Skyblock Trading Rework is not required to use Skyblock Expeditions, but it is the recommended companion for the intended experience. Install the datapack separately, then select the SBTR Return Preset in skyblock-expedition-return-rules.json config file, which will be generated when the mod loads for the first time.

Main Features

  • Private Overworld-style Expedition dimension isolated from the permanent Skyblock generator
  • Bone-block and chiseled-quartz portal frames with matching generated return portals
  • Persistent 8,192 by 8,192 sectors that cycle only on an intentional redstone pulse or operator command
  • Normal Overworld terrain, biomes, structures, archaeology, and generated structure loot
  • Expedition Compass that points toward your return portal inside Expeditions
  • Survey Charter and appointable Expedition Surveyor
  • Active-sector structure maps with structure-specific emerald prices
  • Expedition Archive Maps that preserve surveyed terrain after a sector is cleaned up
  • Off, Vanilla Skyblock, SBTR, and Custom Return Presets
  • Server-authoritative Allowed/Restricted filtering with generated-loot and carried-in-item protection
  • SBTR maximum quotas, minimum-haul thresholds, and weighted equivalents
  • Recursive supported-container filtering and dropped-item handling
  • Ender Chest boundary safeguards
  • Multiplayer recovery, rescue, death protection, and idle disk cleanup

How It Works

Build a rectangular frame entirely from bone blocks or entirely from chiseled quartz blocks. The opening can range from 2 by 3 to 21 by 21. Right-click a frame block with a normal compass to light the portal and convert the compass into an Expedition Compass.

Enter the portal to open or revisit the active sector. A matching portal is prepared near the Expedition landing point. Explore and return through that portal or use `/expedition leave`.

When every player has left, send a new redstone pulse into the remembered portal frame to cycle the sector. The next entry opens a fresh sector, and closed-sector data is cleaned safely while the Expedition dimension is idle.

Return Filtering

Return Filtering is designed to reward exploration without making the Expedition an unrestricted second survival world.

  • Items carried from Skyblock are protected for that trip.
  • Legitimate world-generated Expedition loot is source-authorized.
  • Authorized returned maps become Expedition Archive Maps.
  • Ordinary Expedition-produced items follow the server's selected Return Preset.
  • Restricted items are removed on return.
  • Supported nested containers are checked recursively.
  • SBTR servers can use aggregate quotas and minimum-haul thresholds for selected resources.

Exact live rules are editable in the generated server configuration. Installing a new JAR does not silently replace an existing valid rules file.

Surveyor

Craft a Survey Charter after obtaining an Expedition Compass, then use it on a Cartographer to appoint the world's active Expedition Surveyor. The Surveyor offers maps only for eligible structures confirmed in the active sector. Appointing a new Surveyor replaces the old one without changing normal Cartographers.

Requirements

  • Minecraft Java Edition 26.1.2
  • Fabric Loader 0.19.2 or newer
  • Fabric API 0.152.1+26.1.2
  • Java 25 or newer

Install Skyblock Expeditions and Fabric API on both the dedicated server and every connecting client. Singleplayer is supported through Minecraft's integrated server.

Configuration And Administration

New worlds are disabled by default unless the global enablement default is changed. An operator can enable a world with `/expedition enable`.

The generated return-rules JSON supports Off, Vanilla Skyblock, SBTR, and Custom modes, editable item/tag rules, fallback behavior, overrides, and SBTR limited-return groups. Operators can validate and apply changes with `/expedition reloadrules` and inspect warnings with `/expedition rules warnings`.

Normal players can use `/expedition leave`, `/expedition itemcheck`, `/expedition rules`, and `/expedition status`.

Important Limits

  • Skyblock Expeditions supports Minecraft 26.1.2 and requires matching client/server installations.
  • Only one Expedition sector is active at a time.
  • Sector cycling is refused while players remain inside.
  • Ender Chests cannot enter or be used inside Expeditions.
  • Surveyor offers depend on structures actually confirmed in the active sector.
  • Nether and End portal travel is disabled inside Expeditions.
