Sapling Preview
Know where your tree will grow – before you plant it. Hold a sapling, press V, and every spot around you is marked green, yellow or red. No more saplings that never grow because a leaf, a roof or the darkness is in the way.
Perfect for tree farms, forests around your base, dark oak and giant spruce squares, or just finding the right spot for one tree.
✨ Features
🟢 Green – the tree grows here, in every size it can have
🟡 Yellow – only a smaller tree fits (may fail), or it's too dark (grows with bone meal only)
🔴 Red – this sapling will never grow here
🔍 Reason in an info box below the crosshair: wrong ground, not enough space above (with block count), light level
📏 Space frame shows how much room the tallest tree needs above the sapling
🌲 2×2 trees: dark oak and pale oak squares, plus giant spruce and giant jungle trees
🌱 All vanilla saplings: oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, cherry, dark oak, pale oak, mangrove propagule, azalea, poplar
🎯 Exact: uses the same space and light rules as the game itself
🌍 Client-side only – works on every server, even without the mod on the server

🎮 How to use

Change the key under Options → Controls → Key Binds → Sapling Preview. The radius (default 6 blocks, 0–12) and the info box can be changed in config/saplingpreview.json.

Fabric: Fabric API
NeoForge: no other mods needed
Client only – do not put it on a server (it would do nothing there)
Poplar only exists in 26.3, pale oak not in 1.21.1 – the mod supports what your version has
❓ FAQ
Does it work on servers? Yes. Everything happens on your client, the server doesn't need the mod.
Does it plant or grow anything for me? No. It only shows where a sapling can grow. You still plant (and bone meal) everything yourself.
What about saplings from other mods? Ground and light are checked, the space above is not (shown in yellow).
Can I use it in my modpack? Yes! The mod is MIT licensed.
