Firearms built for multiplayer
Remnants: Ballistics adds sixteen hand-built firearms to Minecraft, from a service pistol to a capacitor-driven railgun. The ballistics engine is server-authoritative: your client predicts every shot so firing feels instant, and the server re-checks ammunition, timing, spread and hits with lag-compensated hitboxes before anything is decided. Fit attachments at a Gunsmith Workbench, press your own ammunition, and hunt blueprints through vanilla structures.
0.3.0 "First Shots" is a pre-release for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1.

- Fire modes: every weapon has its own damage, fire rate, magazine, reload times, recoil, spread, falloff, bullet drop, sway, rarity and durability. Modes are semi, burst and full-auto, switched with
V.
- Actions:
- Tactical reloads keep a round chambered, and empty reloads take longer.
- The revolver, pump shotgun and bolt-action sniper load one round at a time, and firing interrupts them.
- Pump and bolt actions are worked between shots.
- Experimental weapons: the Voidcaster fires void orbs instead of bullets. The Eclipse Railgun charges for a second, then fires a rail shot that pierces targets and soft cover.

- Sights that work: aiming lines the weapon's sights up exactly with the centre of the screen. Reflex and holographic sights show their reticle; 4× and 8× scopes switch to a full scope view with zoom-scaled sensitivity.
- Accuracy: hip fire is looser than aiming, and moving, jumping and sustained fire widen the spread, while crouching tightens it. Recoil climbs and recovers.
- Animations: every weapon has its own equip, idle, inspect, fire and reload animations, with hands that reach that weapon's own magazine, charging handle, pump or bolt.
- Effects: muzzle flashes, tracers, smoke, ejected brass and shells, impact particles and sounds for stone, metal, wood, glass, dirt, water and flesh, bullet holes, hit markers, and a far-field echo when a firefight is far away.

- Hits: hitscan with bullet drop and damage falloff, and head (×2), body and leg (×0.75) zones by default.
- Penetration: rounds punch through leaves, panes and thin wood, losing damage on the way.
- Ricochets: shallow-angle hits can ricochet off hard surfaces.
- Glass shatters. Every one of these can be turned off.

Put a weapon in the Gunsmith Workbench and fill its six slots: optic, muzzle, underbarrel, magazine, stock and finish. A rotating 3D preview and a stat panel show every change before you take the weapon out. Attachments live on the weapon itself, so they show in first and third person, on the ground and in item frames.

- Optics: Holo Reflex, Tripoint Holographic, Ranger 4×, Longeye 8×.
- Muzzle: Suppressor, Compensator, Muzzle Brake, Flash Hider, Shotgun Choke.
- Underbarrel: Vertical, Angled and Stubby grips.
- Magazines: Extended, Drum, Quick-Swap.
- Stocks: Tactical, Light, Heavy Precision.
Each attachment trades something away. A suppressor is 75% quieter and hides your muzzle flash, but costs 5% damage and some range; a drum doubles your capacity and slows your reload by 35%. Compatibility follows the weapon class, so pistols take no stocks and SMGs take no scopes.

- Materials: smelt Iron into Steel, alloy Copper and Gold into Brass, and craft casings, hulls, polymer, Gun Parts and Precision Parts.
- Stations: build a Gunsmith Workbench and an Ammunition Press. The press turns casings, propellant and projectiles into all nine ammunition types.
- Tiers 1–2 need only materials. Tier 3 needs an Advanced Weapon Blueprint; tiers 4–5 need a Prototype Weapon Blueprint, and the top weapons need Remnant Alloy and Void Cores. Blueprints come back after crafting and can be copied for friends.
- Loot: weapons, attachments, blueprints and themed finishes turn up in 25 vanilla loot tables, from village weaponsmiths and pillager outposts to bastions, ancient cities and end cities. Armed pillagers, vindicators and piglin brutes drop ammunition when you take them down.
Twelve advancements track the way, from forging your first steel to a 100-block kill.

- Server authority: the server owns ammunition, fire rate, spread, hits, damage, reloads and block changes. Clients predict their own shots and are corrected when the server disagrees.
- Lag compensation: player hitboxes are rewound by the shooter's latency, up to 250 ms by default.
- Shared spread seed: the server rolls exactly the spread and pellet pattern you saw.
- Anti-cheat: replayed shots are dropped; a jitter-tolerant rate limiter blocks double taps; reported aim is clamped; spread can't be shrunk by a modified client.
- Duplication-safe: neither the workbench nor the press can duplicate items.
- Everyone sees everything: other players' shots, reloads and aiming are animated and heard by everyone nearby.

Three config files, all editable in game from the mod list:
- Client: HUD corner, scale and opacity; dynamic crosshair and colour; toggle-aim and aim sensitivity; weapon bob, sway, camera shake, flash brightness, tracers, casings and bullet holes; volumes.
- Common: turn weapon, ammunition and attachment recipes on or off; structure loot, mob drops and a loot chance multiplier.
- Server (synced to clients):
- damage, PvP, mob and hit-zone multipliers; knockback; spread, recoil and reload speed;
- ammunition and durability rules; glass breaking, penetration and ricochet;
- anti-cheat tolerances and lag compensation;
- per-weapon damage, fire rate, magazine and reload overrides, or disable a weapon entirely.

- Install Remnants: Ballistics on both the server and every client, at the same version.
- 0.3.0 is a pre-release. Back up your worlds and report anything odd on GitHub.
- Remnants: Ballistics is a mod. It does not work as a Paper, Spigot or Folia plugin.

What are the controls?
Attack fires, Use aims (hold, or toggle in the config), R reloads, V switches fire mode and I inspects. Hold fire to charge the railgun. Reload, fire mode and inspect can be rebound under Controls.
Can I play without crafting everything?
Yes. Every weapon, attachment and ammunition type is in the creative tabs. Server owners can also disable whole recipe groups and rely on loot.
Do bullets break my builds?
Only glass and panes break, and only when breakGlass is on (the default). Non-player shooters respect the mobGriefing game rule.
Will it work with my shader pack?
It is untested with Iris and Oculus. Muzzle flashes use standard additive rendering, which most packs support.
How do I repair a weapon?
Use a Weapon Repair Kit at the Gunsmith Workbench, or Gun Parts in an anvil.
