What's new

Pipster 1.2.0 – Beyond the Limits

Worlds from 1.1.0 load without any conversion: the save format is unchanged and the new blocks only add new IDs (tested on 1.21.1 and 26.3, both loaders). Mods built against the Pipster API keep working: the API is unchanged. Client and server must use the same Pipster version, as before.

Note: supported Minecraft versions from Pipster 1.3.0 on

1.2.0 is the last version built for every Minecraft version from 1.21.1 to 26.3. From 1.3.0 on, Pipster is developed only for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric and NeoForge). These versions were chosen by how many players use them. Fewer versions mean much less work per release, so updates and fixes can come out faster.

If you play on another version, 1.2.0 stays available and keeps working. Builds for further versions only come back if enough players ask for them; please say so in the issue tracker.

New

  • Singularity Energy Cable (tier 6): 32,768,000 E/t per segment, eight times the Quantum cable. Energy only; there are no item, fluid or gas pipes of this tier.

    • Craft 8 empty Quantum Energy Cables around a Singularity Core into 8 Singularity cables, or use a Singularity Upgrade Bolt on a placed Quantum Energy Cable.
    • Singularity Core: 4 netherite ingots, 4 Quantum Cores and 1 nether star make 4 cores. One core makes 8 bolts.
  • Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Energy Cable, creative only.

    • Practically unlimited: 1,000,000,000,000 E/t per segment. The limit is finite on purpose, so nothing can overflow.
    • It still uses the normal budgets: a thinner cable between two of these keeps its own limit.
    • No recipe, no upgrade path, and it drops nothing when broken, so it never reaches survival play. Energy buffered in a broken creative cable is lost.
    • Machines of other mods still decide how much they accept. NeoForge energy storage takes at most about 2.1 billion FE per call.
  • The Pulse Amplifier keeps its own pulse limit on the new cables: up to 64,000 E/t with eight capacitor banks and the default config. The cable no longer limits it there.

  • Fluid and gas pipes: filter field with suggestions. Type a name or an ID and pick a fluid or gas from the list, no filled container needed.

    • Use the arrow keys, Tab or Enter to pick, Esc to hide the list; the mouse works too.
    • Gas pipes list gaseous fluids, gases of the Pipster API and, with Mekanism (NeoForge 1.21.1), Mekanism chemicals. Each entry shows its type.
    • When two entries have the same name (for example "Oil" from two mods), each shows its mod in brackets.
    • # lists the fluid tags of the pipe's type. "Everything from <mod>" sets a rule for a whole mod.
    • The server checks every entry: a fluid pipe never takes a gas ID and the other way round.
    • Item pipes keep the plain text field.

Performance

Pipster does the same work in fewer steps: the budgets of a route are built once per route, the budgets of one transfer are booked in one call, and pipe buffers tell their neighbours about changes once per tick and pipe instead of after every single change. Throughput, limits and results are the same as in 1.1.0; chunks are still marked for saving at once.

Measured performance improvements compared to 1.1.0:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 Fabric: 11% lower average tick time.
  • Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge: 10% lower average tick time.
  • Minecraft 26.3 Fabric: 11% lower average tick time.
  • Minecraft 26.3 NeoForge: No measurable change.
