Description

Pac-Man Mod

A tameable Pac-Man. Four ghosts that hunt you. And a dimension made of Pac-Man screens you can walk on.

The Arcade Void

This is the heart of the mod, and it's not a themed biome — it's a whole dimension with its own rules.

The land is made of concentric rings, 320 blocks wide, floating over the void, joined by bridges and cut by lakes of nothing. Standing on those rings are the screens: real Pac-Man mazes, built at 4 blocks per cell, that you walk through from the inside. The pellets are lights you eat by stepping on them. The walls are taller than you, so you never see around the corner — until you climb, or fall, and see the whole maze from above and recognise it.

You get three lives. Falling into the void doesn't eat your inventory: it rewinds you back down from the sky, and costs you a life. Run out and it's GAME OVER — the dimension spits you out of the portal and the run's score is gone. Come back through the portal on your own legs and the score is yours.

Each ring has a Ghost City with a Mother Nest, and a boss — Blinky, Pinky, Inky, Clyde, one per ring. Bosses can only be hurt while you're powered up, so you fight them the way you'd play the arcade: on a Power Pellet, on a timer, with ghosts closing in.

Beyond the fourth ring the screen stops holding together. Rows of the maze slide sideways, walls come up half-built, colours go wrong, holes open in the floor. That's where the glowing walls are — the only blocks in the mod that give off light of their own colour — and where the Glitch appears: the fifth boss, which changes shape every few ticks and teleports behind you.

Everything else

Your own Pac-Man. Tame him with Ghost Fragments, level him up 1–10 with Galaxy Berries. He follows you, fights for you, and at level 10 you can ride him with a Joystick — he rolls, and clears 2.2 blocks in a jump.

The ghosts. They see you from 20 blocks and they come. Eat a Power Pellet and they turn blue and run, and the chain pays 200-400-800-1600 like it should.

The Arcade Cabinet. A block you place and actually play Pac-Man on, with a global high-score table and a Scoreboard you hang on the wall.

The maze dungeon. Six floors underground, nests, chests, a treasure room behind a locked door, and a boss arena under the last floor.

The arcade in villages, and a villager profession — leave a cabinet near a villager long enough and he takes the job, then runs a prize counter that sells things you can't craft.

28 advancements, sounds made for the mod, and an in-game Arcade Manual with every recipe inside the chapter that explains the item.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.12.2
  • Minecraft Forge 14.23.5.2847 or newer
  • Nothing else. No library mods.

Multiplayer

Built for it: lives, score, wallet and ring permissions are per player — two friends on the same server each have their own run, like two coins in the same cabinet. The high-score table lives on the server.

Configuration

Nearly everything is a knob: ghost speed and sight, boss health, ring width, lake size, void depth, how much a pellet is worth. It's all in the mod options screen, in plain language.

Source code

Everything is on GitHub, including the 20 verification scripts and a bench that times world generation and fingerprints the land it builds:

The code is written in Italian — class names, methods, comments — and the comments explain why, not what.
