One Strange Night
Some Minecraft nights hold a little surprise.
One Strange Night adds six rare nighttime events to the Overworld. Follow a falling star, visit a moonlit trader, discover an unusual gathering, or answer a quiet knock at your door.
Participation is always optional. Explore an event, carry on building, or sleep through the night without penalty.
Six Nighttime Events
Falling Stars
A glowing trail descends toward a temporary landing spot. Follow it and approach after the star falls to receive one random resource directly in your inventory.
There are no explosions, craters, or damaged builds.
| Resource — one item | Chance |
|---|---|
| Coal | 30% |
| Raw Copper | 25% |
| Raw Iron | 20% |
| Raw Gold | 12% |
| Redstone | 6% |
| Lapis Lazuli | 4% |
| Emerald | 2% |
| Diamond | 1% |
Each participant can collect one reward per event. If your inventory is full, your original reward is held until the event ends. Making room does not reroll the result.
The Night Market
A temporary wandering trader and llama appear beneath floating lights.
| You give | You receive | Trades per appearance |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Raw Iron | 2 Iron Ingots | 32 |
| 1 Raw Copper | 2 Copper Ingots | 32 |
| 1 Raw Gold | 2 Gold Ingots | 32 |
| 2 Emeralds | 1 named lantern | 2 |
| 1 Emerald | 1 Flower Pot | 3 |
Metal exchanges require no additional emeralds. Stock is shared between players, and the market disappears when the event or night ends.
Curious Animals
Three temporary sheep gather around an iron golem in an unusual little scene. The actors rotate in a simple dance-like display, and approaching the gathering rewards you with a named feather.
The event creates its own temporary animals. It does not move or borrow your existing livestock or pets.
Forest Lights
Five glowing points form a short route toward a location in a forest biome. Follow them in order to receive a named glow berry keepsake.
The route is checked for clear space and manageable elevation changes. In the current alpha, this event uses particles and does not generate a structure or hidden cache.
The Midnight Guest
A traveler appears beside a suitable closed door, accompanied by a recurring knocking-like sound.
You decide whether to open the door. With the door open, interact with the traveler to hear a short story and receive a named flower pot.
The guest never opens or breaks the door. A suitable outdoor arrival spot must be available near a closed door within approximately ten blocks of the selected player. In the current alpha, the traveler remains at the arrival spot.
Echo Night
Five points of ghostly blue particles trace an old journey. Follow them in sequence to uncover five short fragments of a story about two travelers, a lantern, and seeds.
Complete the trail to receive a faded travel note: a named paper keepsake.
Rare Encounters
Default settings provide:
- A 20% chance of an event attempt on an eligible night.
- Three full quiet nights after a successful event.
- A maximum of one active event per server.
- Most events appearing 24–48 blocks from a selected awake player.
- An event duration of up to 180 seconds at normal game speed.
Events take place in the Overworld. If a suitable loaded location cannot be found, the selected event is skipped.
Explore Together
Players can discover and experience the same event together. Trail progress and exploration rewards are tracked individually, while the Night Market’s stock is shared.
Events end when their time expires, the night ends, required locations or actors unload, or no eligible awake players remain nearby.
Gentle on Your World
- Events do not place or destroy blocks.
- Existing pets and livestock are not used as event actors.
- No forced chunk loading.
- Temporary actors are removed when an event ends.
- Leftover tagged actors are removed when loaded after an interrupted session.
- The event schedule persists across restarts.
- Exploration rewards are not dropped on the ground when your inventory is full.
Configuration
The config/one-strange-night.json file lets you adjust:
- Whether automatic events are enabled.
- The nightly event chance and quiet-night interval.
- Event duration and spawn distances.
- The temporary actor limit.
- Exploration rewards.
- Which event types can occur automatically.
Configuration changes require a restart. Individual resource probabilities and market offers are fixed in version 0.1.1.
