Ofon's Miscellaneous Optimizations

Ofon’s Miscellaneous Optimizations is a lightweight work in progress server side optimization and compatibility mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge. Instead of trying to replace broad performance mods like Lithium or C2ME, OMO focuses on very specific expensive or broken behaviors inside certain popular mods and patches those problem areas directly. The goal is to keep the fixes targeted, conservative, and practical for real modded servers rather than changing gameplay for the sake of benchmarking.

On our own NeoForge 1.21.1 server, OMO has helped improve performance by as much as roughly three times in the scenarios it was built to address. Put more plainly, we have seen average MSPT drop to around one third of what it was before some of these fixes, while still keeping a render distance of 16 and testing with as many as four players online at once so far. Results will vary from server to server depending on player count, mod list, simulation distance, mob density, chunk activity, and whether your pack actually contains the same problem behaviors that OMO is targeting.

OMO currently includes targeted fixes, optimizations, and compatibility patches for select versions of Alex’s Mobs, Mowzie’s Mobs, Alex’s Caves, Iron’s Spellbooks, Ignis Soulfires, Wither Reincarnated, Caverns and Chasms, and Legendary Spellbooks. Among other things, OMO reduces wasteful Crow crop searching and other Alex’s Mobs overhead, trims specific Mowzie’s Mobs AI cost, improves certain Alex’s Caves moving block and chunk context behavior, prevents a malformed Echoing Arrow path from causing issues with Iron’s Spellbooks, repairs Ignis Soulfires dedicated server startup behavior, and includes additional targeted server side fixes for the other supported mods listed above.

At the moment, OMO is built around the specific mod versions currently tested on our server. These tested interaction targets include Alex’s Mobs 1.22.17, Mowzie’s Mobs 1.8.2, the current unofficial Minecraft 1.21.1 port of Alex’s Caves 2.0.10, Iron’s Spellbooks 3.16.3, Ignis Soulfires 1.8.0, and Caverns and Chasms 3.0.0, along with the currently tested server versions of the other supported mods in this pack. OMO is not meant to be treated as a universal patch layer for every past or future version of those mods. If the target mod version changes, a given optimization or fix may stop applying, may become unnecessary because the original mod fixed it upstream, or may need to be updated before it should be trusted again.

This project is still a work in progress. New fixes may be added, old fixes may be removed when the original mod no longer needs them, and compatibility coverage will continue to evolve as more testing is done. If you use a different version of one of the supported mods, please assume compatibility is not guaranteed unless it has been explicitly tested. OMO is meant to stay small, focused, and version aware, with each patch existing only because it solves a real problem that was actually found and tested.
