Morphogen

A world that grows its own mod: wake the Morphic Heart, feed it, and it grows materials, machines, creatures, bosses, a guide and a goal that exist only in your world.

A world that grows its own mod

Your world is asleep. Under it waits a Heart that can grow new matter. Plant a Morphic Germ, feed the Heart, and it wakes: lightning falls, a new strain crystallizes in the stone around you, and a creature walks out of it.

Each awakening is an epoch. Each epoch grows content that no other world has: materials, tools, armour, machines, energy, creatures, crops, ruins, guide chapters, quests and skills. Every model, texture, animation, name and number comes from your world seed and from what you feed the Heart. Two worlds never grow the same mod.

Morphogen is new. There could still be bugs that have to be fixed.

How the Heart works

Feed, wake, grow, unlock, reach the goal.

  • Feed it. Right-click the Heart with any item. It tastes eight affinities: Mineral, Verdant, Feral, Arcane, Aquatic, Infernal, Frost and Void. A Heart fed on fish leans Aquatic and grows sea-coloured metals and gilled creatures.
  • Wake it. Each item adds essence. When the Heart holds enough, a new epoch is born. Every epoch needs more than the last.
  • The first awakening decides the world. The Heart chooses what kind of mod your world becomes: a tech factory, a school of magic, a living garden, a land of lairs, a logistics network or a war against a blight. Before it wakes, the guide already shows the plan it would grow.
  • Tiers and gates. Epochs are grouped into tiers. Each tier ends at a gate: a structure to raise, a ritual to complete or a guardian to defeat. The Heart does not wake into the next tier until you pass the gate.
  • The goal. The last gate is the world's goal. Reach it for the finale, then keep going: echo epochs mutate old strains, and the strongest guardian returns stronger each time.
  • Your guide grows with the world. The Morphic Codex writes a chapter for each epoch, your quest book gets a chapter, and the Morphic Attunement skill tree grows a branch.

Six kinds of world

Each world below is a real seed. Morphogen grew these worlds without the game running, and the images are renders of their generated models.

image

Foundry

Machines, generators and current networks. Raise factory multiblocks and defeat a construct. The goal is a World Engine that you must build and keep running.

image

Arcanum

Mana, altars and ritual circles. Cast spells from foci, draw on mana wells and summon a guardian. The goal is a final ritual at the Grand Altar.

image

Vivarium

Grown machines, crops that mutate and creatures that you breed in incubators. The goal is a world seed that you grow in the Great Incubator.

image

Frontier

Many new biomes, towers, lairs and ruins. Follow the lair compass, defeat a guardian at each tier and find relic gear. The goal is the apex boss.

image

Nexus

Transit pipes, sorters, vaults and relay towers. Carry deliveries across the land. The goal is the Grand Exchange.

image

Bulwark

A blight that spreads across the land. Wear sealed armour, build purifiers and ward spires, and hold the line. The goal is the Great Ward that cleanses the land.

A world can also be a hybrid: its first kind with a vein of a second kind, for example a Nexus world with the crops of a Vivarium.

What a world grows

  • Strains: new materials with raw, refined, nugget, dust and lattice forms, ore veins, deep ores and storage blocks. Some come from crops or creatures instead of ore.
  • Equipment: tools, weapons, 3D armour sets and charms, forged from strains. The strain decides every number: speed, damage, durability, enchantability, armour and toughness. Some weapons inflict the epoch's effects, and full armour sets grant one.
  • Machines and energy: crushers, smelters, alloyers, presses, condensers, extractors, growers and more, each with its own shape, animation, screen and sound. Generators burn generated fuels into a current with its own colour, flow and decay; conduits carry it and glow in its colour.
  • Multiblocks: structures with frames, casings, glass and ports around a controller. Place the controller and project the structure from the Codex to build it.
  • Creatures: Morphlings with generated bodies (four-legged, two-legged, six-legged, serpentine, winged, swimming, burrowing and floating), skins, animations and behaviour. Some breed; some drop a cocoon that hatches one of their kind.
  • Guardians: bosses with their own arenas, attack sets and drops. Many of them guard a gate.
  • Land: generated biomes with their own trees, plants, crops, decor blocks and ore outcrops. Reliquary ruins hold loot and sometimes a Codex Fragment: feed it to the Heart and the next epoch grows the machine it describes.
  • The Archivist: a keeper who steps out beside the Heart at the first awakening. Talk to it to hear the last three epochs and what the Heart needs next.
  • Guide, quests and skills: the Morphic Codex (Modonomicon), a quest chapter for each epoch (FTB Quests) and the Morphic Attunement skill tree (Pufferfish's Skills), all generated for your world.
  • Integrations: generated recipes in JEI, tooltips in Jade, Better Combat presets for forged weapons, and JourneyMap waypoints for the Heart and the ruins (JEI, Jade and Better Combat are optional).

Getting started

  1. Craft a Morphic Germ from copper, bone meal and redstone.
  2. Plant it on solid ground. It grows the Morphic Heart. A world can have only one Heart, so choose the place well.
  3. Right-click the Heart with items to feed it. Right-click it with an empty hand to see how much essence it still needs.
  4. When the Heart wakes, read the new chapter of the Morphic Codex. You get the Codex and the quest book when you first join the world.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.11 with NeoForge 21.11.48 or newer, or Minecraft 26.1.2 with NeoForge 26.1.2.124 or newer. Each Minecraft version has its own file.
  • Required libraries: GeckoLib, SmartBrainLib, Curios API, Modonomicon, FTB Quests (with FTB Library), Pufferfish's Skills, TerraBlender, Armor Model API, Player Animation Library and Easy NPC. JourneyMap is also required on the client, but not on a server.
  • Optional: JEI, Jade, Better Combat.

All models, textures, animations, names and numbers of Morphogen are generated by the mod itself. The code is original work.
