Fuse anything with anything
Put a diamond sword and a blaze rod in a station, and you get one new sword that still does everything both parts did. Fuse a hopper with a furnace, a cauldron with lava, a wolf with a creeper. Items, tools, weapons, armor, blocks, machines, plants, fluids, multiblocks and creatures, from vanilla and from any other mod, become one new working thing.
Every fusion gets its own look, its own name and new powers that come from how its parts meet. Then you can fuse it again, as deep as you dare.
Chimeric is new. There could still be bugs that have to be fixed.
How fusion works
Join, keep, combine, look new, risk.
- Every part keeps working. A fusion runs the real code of each part. A fused machine still smelts, stores and accepts energy. A modded part keeps the abilities its own mod gave it.
- Traits meet. Chimeric reads the traits of each part (mining, fire, energy, flight, storage, food, life and many more) and looks at every pair. More than 70 emergent behaviours come from this: a fire edge, a self-mending tool, a magnet, a living weapon that eats food, armor that lets you glide.
- Everything looks new. The result gets a new texture and a new 3D model built from its parts, with golden seams where the parts meet. Creatures get one combined skeleton, and each part moves with its own animation.
- Every fusion gets a name. A diamond sword and a blaze rod become Blazehide; an iron pickaxe with redstone becomes Redpick the Charged, because its strongest emergent gives it an epithet.
- Every fusion has a risk. Each graft has a volatility score. An unstable graft can explode, burn, mutate or discharge.

The five stations

Splicing Table
Items, tools, weapons, armor and food. Put two items in, check the preview (name, volatility, failure chance, cost) and press Graft. It costs XP.
Grafting Forge
Blocks, machines, plants, fluids and multiblocks. It burns furnace fuel or takes energy. Use the Grafting Lens on a multiblock controller to capture it with the shape of its structure.
Bio-Chamber
Creatures and animals, with anything. Catch a creature in a Specimen Jar or lead it in on a leash. It costs XP and food.
Chimeric Nexus
Anything with anything, at any depth. The Nexus can also make a fused machine in item form, so you carry it and use it from your hand.
Unweaver
Splits a fusion one level back into its parts. Some parts can be lost on the way.
Stabilizer Salts lower the volatility of the next graft.
Tools, weapons and armor

A fused tool mines with every tool action of its parts, at the best tier. Damage, armor and durability follow one rule: the best part plus a share of the others. Enchantments merge to the highest level. Tool and armor fusions can be worn and used.
Blocks and machines

A fused block keeps the block entity of each part. Its menu shows the slots, tanks and energy bars of every part in one screen, and a tab opens the original screen of each part. Hoppers, pipes and cables connect to all parts at once.
Creatures

A chimera takes its head from one creature and its body and legs from another, and adds wings and tails. Each part moves with its own animation, so a chimera walks, flies and attacks like its parts. It also keeps their special skills: a creeper part can still explode, an enderman part can still teleport.
Parts from other mods

Chimeric has no list of supported mods. It reads what the game shows about each part: tags, tool tiers, food, attributes, energy, fluids, recipes and the abilities of the block entity. So parts from any mod work. Chimeric was tested with the All the Mods 10 modpack: 5,000 random fusions over 211 mods, with no failures.
Fuse again

A fusion is a part like any other, so you can fuse it again. Identical parts merge into one stronger part. Each level adds detail to the look and risk to the graft.
Danger
Every fusion has a volatility score from 0 to 100. It goes up when the parts are very different, when their traits conflict, and with depth. An unstable graft fails in a way that fits its parts: explosive parts explode, fire parts burn, living parts mutate, magic parts cast random effects, and power parts discharge. Very unstable fusions keep misbehaving now and then.
Server owners can limit terrain damage, protect blocks with a tag, forbid parts or whole mods, allow or forbid bosses, and require a permission level for the stations.
Features
- Any type with any type: a clear rule for each pair of categories decides the form of the result (item, block, pool or creature).
- More than 70 emergent behaviours from the meeting of traits, for items, blocks and creatures.
- Recursion: fuse fusions again; identical parts merge.
- Multiblocks: capture a controller with the Grafting Lens, then build the structure again around the fused controller.
- Fused GUIs: one screen with the slots, tanks and bars of every part, plus the original screen of each part.
- Integrations (NeoForge): JEI, REI and EMI recipe categories; Jade, WTHIT and The One Probe tooltips; Curios and Accessories slots; ComputerCraft peripherals; Create, Mekanism, AE2, energy and mana systems.
- For pack makers: datapacks tune traits, rules, names, looks and volatility; KubeJS and CraftTweaker bindings; a Java API; and
/chimeric compat reportlists every part that caused a problem inside a fusion. - In-game guide (with Patchouli): The Grafter's Notebook explains every station, trait and emergent behaviour.
- Performance: tested with 200 fused blocks and 50 chimeras at 20 TPS in All the Mods 10.
Getting started
- Craft a Splicing Table (amethyst shards, a gold ingot, planks, a crafting table and logs).
- Put two items in it, for example a pickaxe and redstone dust.
- Check the preview: name, volatility, failure chance and cost.
- Press Graft.
Open The Grafter's Notebook for the full guide.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.3 to 1.21.4, with NeoForge, Forge or Fabric (Fabric needs Fabric API). The Fabric jar also runs on Quilt.
- Forge has no build for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.21.2, so Chimeric has no Forge jar for those two versions.
- No other library is required.
Known limits: the integrations with other mods are on NeoForge only. On Minecraft 1.21.2 and newer, fused blocks and chimeras are not drawn yet.
Chimeric's own textures, models, sounds and code are original work. The looks of fusions are made in the game from the textures and models of their parts.
